Default Justifying NAV Purchase

Hey,

I am completely unfamiliar with in-car navigation systems, but if and when I buy a Z - it's looking to be an attractive option. But I'm wondering - does it serve any other purpose than to be a Navigation system? Any cool features that I should be aware of?

not really.. you can modify it to have the screen show dvd or other video inputs, but it's very expensive to modify it.

I would save the money and buy yourself a badass laptop and get Delorme GPS. you can play dvd, play game, and have gps with you all the time for less than $2000.00!!

I like it for its intended purpose. Dont see how you watch tv, play games, doyour homework, ect while you drive. My wife will absolutely not drive herself anywhere unfamiliar meaning I got to go. Last week I talked her into using the nav and go to the city (Jacksonville,Fl.)The unit talked her right to the persons house with ease. My 'take me to town dear' days are over, thank you nav system.

You guys forgot one thing...

The factory nav does monitor oil change (and filter) intervals, which can be set by the driver. It also monitors tire check intervals. Everything can be set according to how many miles you wish to set the interval for...

Once you reach your set miles, the screen says "Pit stop required", and tells you what you need to check. At this point you can either reset the mileage counter, or change the interval.

I like this feature and I do use it, especially for oil change reminders...I don't think many aftermarket systems have this feature, due to the fact that they would not be tied into the vehicle's CAN (controller area network).
