Default Audio advice in Phoenix

I just got my Performance model a week ago and, like so many here, think that the stock stereo sounds like American Idol on a bad day.

First, does anyone have any good experiences with installers in the Phoenix area (with the 350Z)?

Second, what decent head units seem to match the best? I am looking for good sound but it doesn't have to be a killer show car system. What speakers, amp, sub? I would probably want the sub to go behind the drivers seat.

I would like to stay within a budget of $1,000 for a nice sounding good looking unit. Can this be done?

I had good luck with Soundwerks on East Bell Rd. They were doing a black touring model when I went in there. I was glad to see that my car would not be the guinny pig! They have done several 350Z's... including mine.

I had a JL sub and 500/5amp installed along with JL components in the front doors. This is very high quality equipment and is not cheap, but worth it IMHO! All runing off the stock HU. This set up ROCKS!

For a $1000 budget, I would focus on getting some good quality front door speakers and a sub, along with a good amp to power them. You can always upgrade the HU later.

I have also installed a new HU (alpine CDA 7998) <did this myself> because I wanted mp3's

Good luck

Where did you put the sub? Do you have any photos?

Thanks for the info, I will check them out!

The sub is in a custom MDF box just behind the rear "bulkhead" but in front of the strut brace. I wanted it installed behind the seat but they told me (and several others on this board) have said it is hard to get good sound mounting it there. It would have cost a lot to properly seal the space or build an enclosure there. The area behind the driver seat (the stock bose sub area)is a great place to install amps and other equipment.

I don't have any pics.. Sorry
