Made my own Custom Box
I was looking forward to purchasing a TC custom box but I was a little pressed for money with all the birthdays and anniversary coming up, I decided to do a little research on how to make a subwoofer box. After a little reading from http://www.termpro.com/articles/buildbox.html,
I decided to take on the project.
The wood from Lowes cost $20.99, man the price of wood went up from my 1986 GT Escort.
2 yards of Carpet $12.00, 1 bottle of caulking $6.99 and a loaner nail gun.
Here are the specs:
Although it is 35’ in length x 12’ inches in depth and 10.5’ in height
Internally the air space is 33.5" x 10.5" x 9" came out to be 1.83203125
x 2 with a divider down the middle gave me .91.
I subtracted the speaker displacement of .05 and each side is exactly where it should be .86
I made it a little bigger so it could hit lower, and what do you know, it hit's very hard 30 HZ to 80 HZ. I have not had it set higher than 80 HZ yet, I will try it soon.
Oh yea , I am running two Dual 4 ohm Type R Alpine with a Hifonics BXI 1206D at 1 ohm RMS @ 1-Ohm: 1 x 1200-Watt )
Very nice setup, I think I want to add a Passive EQ though! I have always had one and like the addition of them! If anyone wand’s pictures I would be happy to mail them to you. Carpeting was a pain but it came out nice though!
Although it's not as pretty as the Zenenclosure or TCCustoms it’s was cheap with a little time and effort. I probably end up getting a TC customs before it’s all over with, but man I am proud of myself.

I decided to make a box too...It's half fiberglass/wood and replaces the glovebox or sub enclosure. I need some updated pics but it is in the car. I'm not real happy with the sound but it's better than Bose. I might go with a ID sub and scrap the JL. I think the JL doesn't have enough room.
Here a few early pics...Check out that beat up 10W6 the voice coils melted on that sucker.
I'll try to get some final pics in and out of the car.
Those odd shaped black mounts protruding from the side are mangled hockey pucks. It slides into the glovebox mount and I want rubber so it would make any noise. They look ugly but work great!

It doesn't sound horrible but it's not the sound I was going for...It's very punchy type bass. I'm spoiled previously owning big port tuned boxes. I haven't had a compact sealed enclosure for a long time and got used to that long draw out bass. I know not everyone likes that sound so many would probably like this box. I still think an Image Dynamics sub would sound much better in there. I'm going to try a few more things before I go with a different setup. I like the fact that everything is hidden.
