just curious, is there any kind of parking distance control for our Z's.... i just had a recent parking lot incidence... his damn rear bumper was behind my left rear side... A@@ H@@@!!!!
if you mean like the system that beeps when your near something, no, not on a regular Z.
time and money can make anything possible tho... Im sure someone makes a kit for any car, or atleast if you ask nicely and offer mucho $$$ they will.

well as I understand it, its a series of sensors placed around the bumper, so you could put these sensors in any bumper, car model doesnt really matter... then they get wired to the brains, and you put a speaker or light or something in the cockpit to warn you... seems easy enough, Id be suprised if it wasnt made, but it may or may not be cheap either way.

why is it the american technology is cheaper...
BMW: PDC is available as an option on 3 Series sedans (rear only) for $700, and on 5 Series (front and rear) and 7 Series (front and rear) as well.
Mercedes: Known as Parktronic, it comes standard (front and rear) on the S600 and as an option (front and rear) for $995 on S and CL Class sedans.
Ford and Lincoln: Called Reverse Sensing System, Ford offers it as an option (rear only) for a real bargain basement price of $255 on the Windstar, Navigator, Explorer, Excursion, Expedition and Blackwood. Look for this to expand into other models.
Cadillac: Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist (rear only) runs $295 and appears in Seville and DeVille models.
Lexus' Intuitive Parking Assist (front and rear) comes on the LS 430 as part of the ultra luxury package, with an MSRP of $12,290 for the entire package.

Hey, there's a guy from Canada on this site who posted a pic of his car and he has it, but that wasn't the topic. Someone asked what the little circles were and someone else explained... never did get any more detail. a search might be in order.

as for idea... wouldn't it be cool to have a radar screen much like the F-16's or one of those game... with bogey's marked and display the distance in the ceter console.... i've read the Lexus sys gives you distance read out.... for $10K
I will also look into some of these lower end sys from Ford and GM!
although our Z's are pretty damn fast... but... I still have to goto the grocery store and deal with the parking lot idiots!!!

What about a rear viewing camera hooked up to either nav. screen or an aftermarket monitor ?
I have heard talk about doing this for motorcycles to improve view over tiny mirrors.

that was a cool idea in the 007 movie... I actually wanted one!! the rear view cam does not help in emergency situation... if an object is in the blind spot behind the car, YOU will still have to SEE it and react to it... if it's at night or something.. u may or may not see the obj. I think the sonar is prabably the best cu's it ca SEE for you! just need to get the version w/o drilling holes in your bumper!

actually found various type of back up sensor.
Ultrasonic- Parktronic system used on MB, Lexus and BMW's ($500-$10,000)
Microwave- UK co, uses a strip instead of bumper mounted sensors and drilling ($300)
Magnetic waves - Italian and Chinese co, no drilling, uses magnetic strip
IR - mounted on Lic plate frame. $30?
