Default Getting ready to install...

Hello All,

I have decided to edit the post to make it shorter,
I need some advice on which order should I be installing these equipments from?
Here is what's arriving tommorow:

*Phoenix Gold R804, 75 Watt x 4 channels rms
*Kicker 300.1 Mono amplifier, 300 watt @ 2 ohm
*Phoenix Gold Octane ZR 10D4, 10" Subwoofer, 300 Watt rms
*Scosche E400 8 gauge complete amp kit
*ZEnclosure single 10" subwoofer enclosure (received them last Wednesday)

I've also been debating where to hide the amplifiers? What do you guys think? This would also be my first car audio install, what else do I need to watch out for?

Thanks

I.F.

i'm not sure whether the 8 gauge would be enough for that amount of power, maybe 4 gauge would be better. there's a site that has gauge size for certain
RMS power, i don't remember what it was, maybe someone can help.
as far as the amps in the cubby, i've seen people mount one on top of the other, top one suspended by all-thread.

Definately go 4 guage from the battery back. I would run the 4 guage into a fuse block then 8 gauge to your phoenix gold amp and another 4 guage to your Kicker amp. I ordered a second glove box from performance nissan to mount behind the drivers seat. one amp in each box. There should be plenty of pics on this site from other users who have used the same setup.

Well, I've read this is how you would calculate the wire gauge, please see the following: the only other determining factor would be how long your cables will be, this is for 7-10 ft in length, but may be if someone had done the installation them self can tell me if it's enough for the Z?

Here's how you would get your gauge size according to....How to install high performance car stereo....not too sure of the name of the book.

75 watt x 4 channels=300 watt rms
300 watt x 2=600 watt rms (assuming your amplifier is %50 efficient)
600 watt divided by 13=46.15, this number plus the length of wire I will need, assuming 7-10ft comes out to 8 gauge.

Somebody please let me know if this is right? Thanks

I.F.

How much the second glove box cost you? was it a pain to install? That sounds like a pretty good idea.

Well the major piece is a bolt on in place of the plate nissan uses to mount the sub in if you have the bose system. It was alot easier to buy that piece than fabricate an amp tray. The stock glove box has a bracket that supports it from the rear. I cut that bracket in half and used one piece per side. I used a plain piece of wood covered in black felt for the bottom of the second glove box since the glove box uses a separate piece of platic (that adds to the cost as well. I didnt order the hinged door becasue that really added alot to the cost, so I still use the interior panel to cover it. Since performancenissan redid their site I havent been able to find it, but I havent looked in almost a year. I'll see if I can find it for you and post a link

In the mean time look this thread over for some great How to's

Although I opted to reuse the cover panel I already had and I didnt order the factory plastic bottom to the compartment( I cheaped out and used wood) but for as many times as you need to access the compartment, I didnt see the point. Part numbers are listed in the thread. I couldnt find it on the website, but Im sure with the part numbers in hand you should'nt have too much difficulty aquiring the necessary piece.

I placed both of my amplifiers under the seats. It barely fits, but the main thing its not in sight, not taking up valuable space, and is able to ventilate. I hope you're replacing the stock speakers. After you see what the stock speaker is made of, you'll realize that 75 watts is way more than that speaker can handle. The cone is about as flimsy as manila folders and the magnet is about the size of 8 quarters.

What size power wires were you using? 4 gauge? 8 gauge?

Yeah, the stock speakers were taken out a month ago and replaced by MB Quarts

4 gauge for both the power and ground. I used to have this amp and sub (sub in a different box) in my jeep and it ran fine. The only time it would cut out was if i was at a red light or at a stop where it could really drain on the battery. Is the Z alternator really this weak?

I don't know much about it either, but may be someone can help us? So should I order another 4 gauge amp kit and return the 8 gauge kit?

Be350, see, according to this thread, the alternator and battery should be fine on our car:
