Default JL 250/1 question - technical

ok, so i'm not to familiar with the properties of this amp. I am assuming that the 250 rating is RMS, and @ 4 ohms. My question is, can this amp handle a 2ohm load, and if so, what is the output. I know traditionally its close to double assuming we dont lose too much to heat and what not, but im just mainly looking for a rough idea, and also if its stable. Basically, I want to hook it to a 4ohm DVC sub that I am going to wire the two voice coils in parallel, so by doing that I am going to be presenting the amp with a 2ohm load.. Looking for 400-450 RMS outta it... Is this amp gonna do it for me? THanks in advance.

The slash series are designed to provide the same wattage (in this case 250W) to a varying load (I believe 2 - 8 ohm) with the same THD.

interesting.. wonder how that works... actually though, if I buy it, it will be the older series, so do you know what the deal is with the older ones? still same deal?

I don't think they have changed. The slash series is aimed at sound quality not max power. If you setup this amp per JLs recommended step-by-step instructions, you will use a test tone and voltmeter to get the output voltage to a specified level at 3/4 volume. This would be the 250W @ .2%THD I believe they state for the amp.

If you are looking for more power you could always ignore JLs recs and gain the amp higher..but the distortion will increase as you do. Just the same as any amp. But if your going to do that, maybe look at a cheaper amp.
