Default I need help locating

I had my amps installed today and the tech suggested that I get a 2 or 0 gauge power wire with atleast a 180 Fuse Circuit Breaker! What the hell is it and where do I find one?

Thanks in advance

That's a heck of a big cable ... how many alternators are you running?

4 gauge will handle every watt the stock alternator is capable of putting out - don't turn the lights on or step on the brakes if you're running that much wattage.

Paul I have two Alpine MRV 650 running on each alpine type R at 2ohms, with one Apline 345 running mids and highs! He told me that I should get a circuit breaker with atleast 180 watt fuse and a 1 farad cap? Also, should chnage to 0 or 2 gauge power wire?

Does this sound right or do you suggest something else?

Do you mean MRV605? How were your amps installed without power wire or fuse?

You are apprently running near 1500W. 180A amps (not watts) fuse is an understatement. I believe the 345 requires 60A and the 605 requires 80A each.. That said, your best bet would be to get a 0/2 g kit with ANL fuse holder and 200A ANL fuse. You will also have to split the power wire (distribution block) to 4g or 8g to run to each amp. And find a good spot to ground them all.

Still would be the same requirements..

- determine where your amps will be located and distance from battery. Get this length of 0/2g power wire and run from battery to near amps using threads on this board for help. Fuse it with 200A ANL within 18" of battery.

- Run 0/2g into distribution block that will feed 3 4g wires, one to each amp. Then run 4g ground wire from each amp to a good tested ground point.

- Run the remote lead from amps to the head unit.

You can find a wiring kit that has all of this in it.

The mrpm650s have a combined total of 120 amps worth of max current draw, and the mrvf345 is 60. That being said you would be better off running a 1/0 power wire with a 3 or 4 way 4 gauge distro block. Finding a 180amp circuit breaker would have to be ordered from somewhere. Or you can use two monster 100 circuit breakers wired in together. You'd be fine with a 200amp setup.

You can also use a 200 amp anl fuse, but the only problem is the size of the fuse holder from most companies. JL does make a anl fuse holder which allows a 180 degree wire entry setup. You should be able to get this setup from any JL dealer.

here is a guide to power/current/wire gauge. This will help you to determan the size wire. I am running 4 gauge with 1.3kwatt and dont have any proplems.
