Default Kenwood DPX-501 opinons?

Thinking about putting in the Kenwood DPX-501 to replace OEM HU. What do you guys think of it?

I like how it looks (Most DD's look odd to me). How much do they go for? Why are you going with this one (Ipod, looks, Sat radio..)?

What do you want out of your completed system?

That deck is pretty bare bones... 2 pairs of 2.5v preouts (no subs?), single aux input, 3 band eq, no dvd capabilites.

Unless you never, ever, ever, ever want to replace your stock speakers or add subs, I'd skip it. You don't have to shell out the $$$ for a Z1, but damn you can do alot better than that thing.

wow didn't even ontice that... i'm starting out with the HU first. I really wanted to get a double DIN unit so there would be no empty slot left... after that was going to replace the speakers in the doors and put infiniti speakers behind the seats and then buy a JL audio stealthbox

from there was going to put in a lcd in the cubby hole and install a carputer

but maybe i should just get a pioneer avid-z1 ... what do you guys suggest?

I'm not one to spend another's money, but I would definitely say with what you plan on doing that you need a better HU. I also agree about going DD, so my suggestion is to just take that list of what you want now and in the future, and head on over to crutchfield to see what they have and what fits your needs/budget - and then shop around for a better price I know for a fact there are quite a few DD units out there that have 5v preouts, touch screen, dvd, and nav ready to roll for around $1500.

Good luck and be sure to post pics when you're done!

I bought the higher model DPX-701 for ~$300 when it first came out. its a good HU, but my only regret is not going bigger and getting a touchscreen. Another Z guy on this forum recommended the site www.salectronics.com and now i'm passing it to you. PM me if you got any questions about the HU.
