Default Where to start looking for a HU

I went to the local car audio store this weekend and was totally shocked at the prices. I quickly realized that I can't rely on the salesman to guide me and that my ignorance is like a sign that reads "take my money!". What I need is a good source of comparisons and specs so I can decide what I want, and just install it myself. I have found several mfr sites, but I am looking for unbiased reviews.

I'm not looking for a show setup, I don't really want a sub, or external amps, just good clean sound. I also kind of want to do something different. It seems like everyone has an Alpine. There has to be equalivent quality in a different, less common, brands.

Anyway, can you guys point me to some good on-line sources of information on whats out there?

Thanks

I used crutchfield.com to pick the hu features I was interested in.
It lets you do side by side comparisons and breakdowns by featuers of the hu.
