You don't NEED them, but personally I enjoy being immersed in sound from all around me, so I opted to keep the rears and will possibly even add a center channel in the stock dash cubby

HUH?

I was merely listing some companies the guy designed for. He is most famous for his old HiFonics work. As for HiFonics and most of the others you mention as still being good today, I disagree. Most amps today are very cheaply produced. You do get what you pay for in car audio amplifiers. Not saying you won't get a 100x4 amp for $200 by some of those brands you mention, but how clean and uncolored are those watts? Most of the companies you mentioned no longer even design and assemble their own amps. Example: HiFonics is now made by Maxxsonics who also makes mbquart, autotek and crunch.....who you yourself said aren't brands you would consider good.

Anyway, the Zed Audio amps are truely sweet amps. I've had several and every one has impressed me.

Given your K2P price range, have you audition LOTUS, DYNN, or HELIX speakers? I found the K2P's to be overwhelmingly bright, as compared to the aforementioned speakers.

For SQ, I highly recommend HELIX(Brax) Competition amps. If needs to be, they are one of the few amps that can output 1OHM per channel! Finess your ears with a McIntosh CD player and you'll be all set!
