Components, Which Ones?
I have been researching for a while all over looking at shared thoughts and opinions on component speakers. I have been tallying here and there what I would like to go with, but really haven't recevied any clear differences between my desired choices so I gave in and posted my question.
I def. want the finished pods to go with my components and would like to place the tweet in the original stock location, but am willing to give it up for better performance. Would like to power these with JL 300/2.
My top 5 choices are:
1: Focal 165K2Ps or Utopia 165 or 165V1,165V2 (If money was no object which is the best for my desired setup)
2: CDT
3: Boston Acoustics Pro60 or RC620 (Don't know which is better)
4: Polk MM6500 or any other out there
5: Dynaudio
6: Infinity Kappas or Perfects (I have come to understand these are more of a budget choice which can be exempt from the list)
I know many are biased to JL components so you can share your thoughts on that in comparison to my top choices.
Again I have researched and the general senses is to go to the audioshops and listen for my personal preference. Understood, but lets overlook that for a minute as I mention I mostly listen to rap with an occasional alternative and rock mood hitting me during the week. I strive for quality and cleaness over competition and to be heard for miles.
Budget - lets see 1000+ for components only.

From experience, you cant go wrong with CDT's. Focals are supposed to be really nice although Ive never had the opportunity to listen to a set.
Pods would be a must for any of these choices IMO to give these speakers a fighting chance to sound good!!

From the list you have there, I have expirience with 3,4 and 6. I go for the Boston Accoustics since they are the best from chices 3,4 and 6. I would also look into MB Quartz.
BTW listening to speakers in a stereo shop is not the best way to make a decision when shopping for a speaker set. I would listen to speakers in others people cars, specially in other Zs.

Focal is good but the polk sr6500's are sick. That is their top of the line component speaker, i may be baised cuz i just installed them but I must say that they sound amazing, even untweaked.

I cannot believe that anyone hasn't suggested the Dynaudio's. IMO the only other speakers on the list that can compete are the Focals, but SQ is very listener sensitive.
Go for the 3 way Dyn's. Superior Sound quality

SHAMELESS PROMOTION
I have a used set of Infinity KAPPA 60.5 component speakers I ran in my doors. These already have the Bose speakers gutted for spacers. I also have a set of Infinity KAPPA 62.5i rear speakers I used. I am looking to get about $100 shipped for these. I will even include all wiring to run from the HU to the speakers and crossovers which is Stinger 12 ga twisted pair wire. I paid close to $300 for these about 3 years ago. They still sound awesome! They have plenty of highs. The only negative is their lackluster lows.
If you are interested in these, shoot me a PM.

Everyone's input has been great. It has steered me to research other options which then brought to my attention other brands for components.
However, much like similar threads to this one, the opinions and recommendations are widespread. Good to see that I will be happy with any I choose, but still mine boggeling as to what to choose.
So it looks like I'm narrowed down to the following:
(1) CDT (which I never seriously considered before)
(2) Focal 165W Utopia vs. 165k2p (which ones a lovely 3 pair vs 2 pair and the 2 pair might win for easy installation)
(3) Morel Oviation
(4)Polk 6500 (which I am getting mixed reviews on but clarity over loudness I am going for)
- Does anyone object to these?
- Can anyone really say they have one in mind that will blow away the competition?
- Does anyone favor any of these over the other?
Any input going forward is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

out of the ones you listed, my choices would be the Morel Ovation.
Polk SR6500 is also a good choice.
of course, i'd like to throw DLS on there, anyhting in the ultimate line, espeically the Iridium or the Nobelium line, along the line in cost of the k2p but i prefer it becuase they have to me a "warmer sound"

I was thinking of up grading to Polk SR6500 from the polkmomo MM6500. but I heard they are power hungry. I running the polkmomo C400.4 amp right now. And I was wondering would that be enough if I just upgrade my fronts to the SR.

The focals are impressive! They have midrange detail that I have not heard before. I set the tweeter to the lowest level because they were too loud! The detail of these speakers is amazing and the middrivers pump out some serious bass. My subwoofer is set to 50Hz and gain is down low. Most of my bass is coming from my doors. You cannot localize my subwoofer, the sub bass sounds like it comes from the Focals.
When I crank the system, my sub cannot keep up with the focals.

Which Focals do you have and where did you purchase them if you may?
Also where did you mount your tweeter (fyi)?
Did you dynamat?
What amp pushes your focals?
Have you heard anything else that you would choose over the focals if the price was right?
sorry for the 100 questions.

i have heard every single speaker thus listed, installed probably about 80 percent of them.
detail is focals strong point, as well as midbass, judging from what he said, i would say the K2p set, i like that set decently well, along wtih the utopia and Be line of course. but as stated, the focal, though detailed, to me (emphasize this to ME part), is a bit harsh on the upper midrange and high side...
focals, along wtih dyns, DLS, morel and many other hgihe end european speakres, all crave power, so send them as much as possible and they will blow your mind when properly tuned and installed

all focal speakers are good in my opinion. Also I dont think you could go wrong with any of the above speakers. I however am going with the momos that are listed. The components up front and the same series in the rear. But have crossovers and sound amazing.
