I've got a 350w amp. Should I get one sub or two?
Hello, I am going to order one of the under the strut bar sub boxes for my Z but I am not sure which one to get. I'd be interested to hear opinions. I've got a Zapco 650 amp running at least 350 watts at 2ohms. I listen to rock and rap music so I'd prefer the bass reasonably tight and low. I'm not looking for a show worthy system but I would like something nice and loud. My question is should I go with one subwoofer that the amp should be able to handle like the JL 10w6v2 or two subs that might be a bit underpowered like Jl 10w3v3's? If anyone is running either of these configurations with similar power I'd like to hear about it. If you aren't familiar with Zapco they are amazingly clean amps that normally perform above specs. Any other subwoofer recomendations would be welcomed as well. Thanks.
You should look for something ported rather than sealed. Even better a bandpass design. I haven't seen anything pre-built for the Z but that doesn't mean that they're not out there.
one 10 or 12 IMO is enough for the Z is the amp 1ohm or 2ohm stable? get a decent DVC woofer if its 1 ohm stable you could push about 400-500 watts at RMS I would think. Its all about matching the amps ohms to the subs. Crutchfield .com has a bunch of info on this. I usually under power my subs by 100 watts or so and have never blown them. (fostgate, kicker, MTX etc..)
I prefer to conserve as much cargo area as possible so I'm going to stick with the sealed under the strut bar box. As for the amp, it is 1 ohm stereo at 2x 175 watts or 4 ohms bridged at 350 watts. Either is easy enough to match to the impedance of the subs. Thanks for your thoughts.
