Default Alpine HU discussion and question

so i recently bought a Alpine 9861 cd/dvd headunit. long story short, i hook my ipod to it and can only control the ipod thru the hu, not the ipod itself...this i can deal with. what gets me is that when i play a dvd, i cannot listen to the ipod or any other audio source. this angers me. alpine is supposed to be the industry leader in technology, but they can't figure out how to get a dvd to play thru a monitor while letting you listen to music...that makes no sense to me.

now the question......if i hook up a video ipod to my hu, will i be able to play videos thru the monitor and still hear them? or will i need a special adapter?

I don't believe video iPods output their video in any form. You will probably just hear the audio.

why would you want to control the ipod through the ipod while hooked up to the hu, if you want to do that *** backward connection just tap into the inputs in your hu with rca to stereo jack connections

Actually they do. You can output to a standard RCA Jack or play through an Ipod Compatible video device.
