Avic Z1 with Polk DB6500 Amp question.
Hi all. After searching the forums, I still have a couple of questions. I am new to car audio and wanted to get some feedback/recommendation from my350z members. Currently, I have a Avic Z1, with stock/oem speakers. I recently bought some Polk DB6500 components but have yet to install them.
My question is, what kind of amp should I get at minimum in order to have the speakers sounding great? My budget is up to about 200 dollars. I have an '06 model without the Bose system. I am just looking for more of a clear sound for vocals and maybe some light rock. I do not have a sub and will maybe decide on one in the future. Thanks so much all.

Do you recommend a 2 channel or 4 channel amp? I don't think I will get a sub anytime soon. I want to just run the components for a while. Thanks again for any and all advice.

If you wanna go budget, get a 2 channel amp to run the fronts and use the headunit power for the stock rears. If funding allows, replace the rears with some coax speakers and use a 4 channel amp. The rear speakers arent really as important as your front speakers for sound staging.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Assuming my budget is about 200 bucks, what are some good amps that can power these speakers? Is it better to get a 2 channel amp for the components and if I decide to purchase a sub later, buy another amp to power just the sub? Thanks again all. Your help has been great.

A dedicated sub is is preferred. If your going to power your components with a two channel amp, pick out your components and see what their RMS wattage power handling is. Based on that, choose a two channel amp that can provide an equal amount of RMS power.
Think of peak ratings as a component pushed to its limit. If a set of speakers has a 100w peak power handling you don't want to feed those speakers with 200 watts. Matching the RMS power ratings of your speakers and amplifiers is a better method to deciding what will sound good with each piece of your system.
The power rating for your polk speakers recommended power range: 10-100 watts RMS.
I would check out a MTX AUDIO TC4002 2-Channel amp 70watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms for your polks should be plenty. One can be had for around $150.00 on ebay with $26 shipping. Later on you could pick up another one to use for a sub amp. Just bridge the two channels together for 400 watts.
