Audio Gurus I have install Questions! Z1 experts welcome....
I will be installing an Avic Z1 (december 06' Manufactured date) in my GF's 06' Z. I had a few questions concerns with this. I have been reading on avic411, and I havent been able to find the answer. I know how to bypass the safety for the DVD player. Question is will she lose the auto dimmer on the HU when she turns her ights on? My sister recently had an AVIC Z1 installed and bypassed by a stereo shop in her car, and her auto dimmer doesnt even work, they told her it was because of the NAV/DVD bypass and I dont buy it. Are they correct or did they just not do something correctly?
Next question is, where is the speed wire found? Needed for the Avic's speedo displays. I searched in this forum but I could not find an answer.
Third-I will also be installing the Pioneer bluetooth accessory for the cell, and the IPOD integration. I remember doing my HU in my Z (2003 Z, Pioneer 6800) and it was tight behind the dash with the wiring harness, any ideas where to mount the boxes for these 2 options?
Any help/suggestions/feedback would be gretaly appreciated.

1. wtih your december manufactuer date, you dont need to do anythign with the lights, you need to take a wire out of hte harness (i 'd chose the cell phone mute wire yellow/black), and then if you look on one of hte harnesses, you will see four slots open towards one side, you need to insert this wire into one of hte four slots (i usuaully do the far corner), and then ground it. this bypasses everything without the need to flash lights.
2. speed wire is a white wire pluged into the AC box, when you get hte dash off, look at the center plug going into the white ac box, the white wire in there is what you need to tap
3. lead the wire out and hid it under hte carpet in the passenger foot well works well

2) Thank you that was easy enough
3) So your saying mount the units in the drivers side footwell? Ok, I didnt think the wires were that long but I'll see what I can do.
My main concern was the auto dimmer not functioning with the bypass. Thanks again
For anybody that wants this, here is the link to the Z1 bypass, both early and newer production models.

Did the bypass today-took all of 1 minute. I will be installing the HU tomorrow. Wanted to get suggestions on where to put the GPS antenna/pad. I dont want to put it outside of the Z, any ideas? Maybe up on the dash by the windshield? Do you guys think it would reach to the rear strut brace? Ideas welcome....

Guy I am a retard, I need help. I didnt take into account that the Z1 Im installing is going into an 06' Z with the fatcory Bose. Stock headunit has 4 connectors going in the back, Z1 with wiring harness' has 2 coming out, so 2 are unplugged from the factory.
What will I lose, the bose sub? Can somebody lead me in the rigt direction on what to do to keep the sub? I am depserately searching as I type this. I assume the speakers would still work as they are wired up, but doesnt the factory bose have an amp for the speakers or is it just for the sub? ANY input would be greatly appreciated guys....
edit-searching and Im coming up with this---> I need to connect the remote on wire (blue) coming from the factory harness to the Metra kit, simple as that? This should send the signal to the amp when the HU is turned on for the speakers to work. Excuse my ignorance but this will also power the sub correct?

I have a Z1 and mine reached the strut bar. No need for it to be visible!

Well search saved me last night. For anybody doing an install on an 06' w/bose here is how we did it....
We powered the remote on wire (blue) to a power source so it powers the amp when the HU comes on. Bose sub and speakers all worked perfect. It wasnt a bad install at all. We ran the GPS antenna to the rear strut bar, ran the antenna along the drivers side kick plate and paneling to the back. We put the bluetooth receiver under the center console where my GF puts her phone, so its literally less than 3" away from the unit, even though yu can mount it anywhere in the car, the signal doesnt have to travel far-quality is better than what I expected. The bluetooth mic is on the a-pillar, doesnt obstruct view and can be heard perfect on the other end, definetely love this feature, and I'll be adding it soon-along with the IPOD integration to my 6800. The IPOD adapter is run into the cubby above the HU and the actual IPOD unit is placed under the white box located under the HU. Nice install, great HU and looks great with the Metra kit-which was a pain in the d!ck to adjust so it wouldnt hit the screen upon opening/closing bu tnothing we couldnt get around. Huge thanks to Kirkster on the forums that came over and helped!
Yeah I have the 6800 in my Z, you just put the (green IIRC) parking brake sense wire and put it on a switch. You cant just ground it, as I found out that if the HU detects the ground never going off, it wont bypass. This way you turn on the car as normal, and if you wanna watch a DVD while moving you flick the switch and the "warning" screen goes off and you have full control of the HU.

What is the switch connected to ground? One end to the green wire and the other to the chasis?
How did you fix the rubbing of the lcd? My 6800 i have to help it to get it to open. Did you shave some plastic from the dash kit? I would rather not do that, it looks so clean right now.
Thanks

Bend the tabs that hold the dash kit in, and yes I had to shave it. Do it slow with a dremel and it will look fine. And yes, wire it so the ground/circuit can be switched on/off-just like you mentioned.
The dimmer works on her unit as well? I got my AVIC-Z1 (with Ducatiboy Flasher) installed months ago and the dimmer doesn't work on mine. I need to bring it back to my installer. How did you wire up the illumination wire?
