Default My opinoin of Borla after install.

I have had my Borla for 2 days, these are my obsevations. First of all the guy who did my installation is an exhaust expert. He has several patents for Lotus exhausts, and Penske has sent several cars to him for his version. When he saw the kit he was impressed. After installation he told me that he had physically felt the difference in the exhaust speed flow from the rear tip compared to stock. my observation is beleve it or not quiter then my stock exhaust at higher RPM's, Throaty sound at lower RPM's and idle. I was concerned that it would be to loud but it is perfect. Performance have not dyno it yet. I feel I feel a difference at about 3k- 5k a llitle bit more surge. Is it in my head? Maybe but thats enough for me right now before I dyno it. Apperance Priceless!! That's my story and I am sticking to it. OH $100.00 to install, I read some places will do it for about $80.

Maybe it's just me buy it seems by your response, you don't feel as if it's added the claimed 20hp+?

Thats pretty cool to hear about the sound. I want something different, and a tad louder than stock (which it seems to be, having combined all the reviews comming out). I don't want obnoxious, head-turning loud (unless its posativly entoxicating i.e. Ferrari). One thing i wish the stock Z had, was more of a high pitched, metalic top end, to counter with burbly low end (think BMW), and the Borla seems to hint at this.

Hopefully TechnoSquare's ECU will utilize the exhaust more. I beleive that the ECU does try to comensate for mods to a degree....TechnoSquare claims to have found it does and have disabled it (and its prety hard to turn a light off in a room if there was no light). The engineer from Nissan (who got a slap on the wrist might I add acording to some sources) also stated this. NISMO may have said something to the effect that the ECU ratios/mixes arn't fixed, and that the ECU will take full advantage of beter intake....but hey, NISMO isn't looking to good these days, and I dont think they would want to sabatoge thier own (and the dozen other tuners there) who are selling bolt on mods.

I think 20 or 18 hp is hard to detect, it is apparent to me there is some gain there.

Agreed, I just put mine on and can feel some difference. Like 88 said it does seem to surge a little more up high. The sound down low is great! not too loud, not stock, a little exotic.

Maybe you could trade FULL size pics of your avatars with all the censored content for a scan of the Borla Dyno numbers?

To be honest, if no one else gets the dyno done by the time i get my Borla true Dual kit, my friend knows the owner of a shop near his place (about 2 1/2 hours from my home) that has a dyno machine, so hopefully i can go out there, dyno my stock setup, then let my car cool down and do the exhaust swap, drive around for a day or so on it, then have the Borla dynoed before i hit the road to come back home.

Chances are if Borla did the dyno on an automatic, ill probably end up with similar numbers since im rollin a 5AT. If I dont, then it would be a more accurate representation of the true gains, compared against their dyno #s and mine. And yes, I did follow proper break-in procedure for the first 1000 miles, and just ran over 4k rpms evey once and a while from 1000 on. My car is just at the 5000 mile mark now so itll be a pretty average dyno for most of us right now i assume?

I'll look into it. I put on the pulleys a few weeks ago as well so I'm interested where I am now. I never got a baseline, so I won't have anything to compare it to. If I have anywhere near the 260s whp, I'll know it was worth it. It definetly feels like there is more life there. I have 6500 miles, so my engine is broken in. Next, maybe the plenum, cats and maybe some cams. I think 300 whp N/A shouldn't be all that hard to come by after some ECU tuning and maybe that new K&N typhoon intake. Who knows. Its good to have a Z with all aftermarket company eyes on us...

Default Borla Exhaust

I had a Borla system on my 2000 vette and hated it. It actually made the car quiter and less agressive sounding. I never did like the sounds that Borla produces. I do like the sound of a flowmaster. Has anyone installed a flowmaster set on thier Z?

Dont forget, Borla needs time to burn in. My dual is on the way I am exchanging it for the single which I have had for about 4000 miles.
The exhaust sounded like nothing at first. I was like SH** 700 wasted. after about 500 miles, it sounded better. After 2000 miles it was totally different. It sounds fricking great now. i hear it windows up or down. A nice deep growl that I can feel but it is not obtrusive and does not intrude into the stereos sound.

Trust me 88. After 2 grand miles your exhaust will be different. I am just sorry I have to break in my exhaust all over again!

I originally was going to do a flowmaster set up because someone here had custom built one and posted pics and sound clips. I thought the sound was what I was looking for.

Took my Z to a very reputable installer and when I showed him the pics of the customer Flowmaster, he said he would not do that to my car. I won't say the quality was poor, but the install was not clean. they had to cut the Flowmaster apart and shorten it to get it to fit. He was very concerned about the longevity of the custom welds.

All that said, now that my Borla is on and having heard Flowmasters, I think the Borla is 100X better for the Z. The Flowmaster would be at home on a Vette or V8 pony car, but on the Z, the Borla is right at home!

The borla on the 350z is more aggressive than stock and it sounds better than stock imo. someone custom install the flowmaster for the z, but I think it was more raspy sound..

each car has different setup..so you never know..

Default Don't make the mistake I did.

I got the box and today went down to get the exhaust installed. Ops!!

Borla provides TWO boxes not one.

My bad.

Still waiting for the second box.

They did not have to cut and weld my flowmaster, and I love the sound, but I am kindof itching for the borla.

I just got the Borla installed today. To tell you guys the truth, I couldn't tell the different between the stock and Borla. The sound is about the same. The only different is when you first start the car or in first gear( it sound like boom boom then the sound of the stock comes in). Maybe i have to wait til it breaks in like someone mentioned above. But over all I like the sound alots. No raspy or fart can sound like others Exhausts.

I put it on two days ago and I love it man. I love the low roar throaty sound. Its amazing. I noticed an acceleration improvement. The only thing different is that it only took us 25 minutes to put in. 5 til 12 rolled on rack and at 12:20 we were backing it out. That quick.
