Default Interior rattle

I just installed a single 10 in the spare tire well. When I really crank it, it seams that all the plastic pieces in the car start to rattle. What are you guys doing to remedy this problem. I will not be spending $600 to dynamat the whole car but I am going to buy a small pack and try to put small pieces on the plastic panels inbetween joints, and where they snap into the metal. Is this a good idea, and what are your suggestions.

Foam tape works well for some of the trim pieces -- that's what I'm using.
The real challenge is homing in on and finding the culprit that is buzzing/rattling.

Paul350Z -- how much in your estimation did you use for the door panels?

For a start I purchased 50 sqft and plan to do a section of the rear hatch area as well. Any any recommendations on where the dampening is best placed if I'm running a single 10" sub in a "S" type Zenclosure?

I'm in the process of upgrading my audio system. And since I've decided to wait on the new Pioneer D3; I'm taking time to Raammat my entire car ala 2fast4thelaw's project >> https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-video/239489-my-focal-sq-sound-system.html

I'm not going to do as liberal a job as his car, but even if you got enough Mat to cover the ENTIRE interior AND in addition decided to ensolite every inch WITH their special adhesive...you're still only looking at max 300-something for all the materials.

I would think you could only get to $600 if you were doing Second Skin Damplifer mat put in by a pro installer~

well I expected to use atleast 1 maybe half of another bulk pack of dynamat. It gets very expensive. It may not even gauranty that the plastic wont rattle.

I am going to take the idea of the foam tape to all the plastics and see if that helps.

IMO 1000 watts or less no need for any sound deading

i use over 3000 watts and no sound deading

spent a lot of time and money on it before and only gained a 1 DB

it is good stuff and will only help , absolutely won't hurt

you need a really good ear to listen to 2 of the same cars lets say with 500 to 1000 watts and tell me which has mat and which does not

the average can't duistinguish
IMO

Glad to hear that. I have seen alot of people use it but I never have. I am just going to use other methods to get rid of the rattles, most of which are plastic anyways. It is really quite anoying though that everything is rattling. I dont even want to crank it.

the Z have a TON of rattles, more so than any new car i have done to be honest...

and majority of the rattles exists between the seat and the trunk rea, all those big plastic pieces rattle and buzz to no end...unfortuatnely, there is no alternative to just taking hte pieces out, and dampen them...

if you pay someone to do it, 600 bucks about covers it including material and labor (if they dont use dynamat but an alternative)...

waht i would do is take those pieces out, put one layer of normal material ont he metal, and then do foam dampening on the palkstic pieces, so there is no rubbing...but again, very time consuming to do right and cover the entire areas with all the panels...

My plan as of right now is to pull all the panels out and put material on every hole where the plastic snaps in and use foam tape on all the plastic edges where they over lap on other plastic or touch the metal. It may be time consuming but it drives me nuts, I cant turn up my stereo becuase it starts to rattle bad. When I dont crank the stereo I have no rattles and I would like it to always be that way.

I used FatMat putting it nearly everywhere from the back of the seat aft. I put two to three layers over the wheel wells were I could hear ever pebble that was lifted from the road. Newton's laws tell us that the heavier something is the hard it is to get moving so you're trying to add mass to the panels that you think are vibrating or buzzing.

With two 75 square foot rolls of FatMat I just put the stuff everywhere. In the doors I put mats on the innner door skin and the plastic door panel. I did not remove the inner door panel as I've heard here that people have had problems with the windows afterwards.
