Hole in my Dash
ok so i have a question about stereo's and im not sure if i should post here or in the stereo section. feel free to move if needed.
but basically the dillema is what to do for an aftermarket stereo.
I have amps, wires, subs, and speakers...the only thing missing is a head unit.
I have the stock non-bose stereo and navigation. I've heard that if i replace my stock head unit, that i loose functionality of the navigation is that true?
if so, and i do replace it i wanna put in the AVIC D2. I would put the D2 behind the automatic closing door that the old nav unit used to be in, but what would i put in the place of the old factory head unit? cuz i would have a hole in my dash. I really wanna put it behind that closing door for security's sake, but im not sure what to cover the factory slot up with.

The only nav finction you'd lose is the voice guidance, and there's probably a way to get that to work with a new headunit.
You could also just keep the stock headunit and use the speaker level inputs on the amp or one of those modules now available that jacks in and gives you the input/output options of an aftermarket headunit on your stock piece (I forget what it's called, but Crutchfield carries them).
