Default Buying audio gear online

hi guys im from Australia and am going to upgrade my sound system. Having read nearly all the audio threads here, im curious how many of u guys bought gear off the net??? Audio gear is way too expensive in Aus. Ive decided on the Sony Double din deck from Meltin-Pot, but am a bit hesitant to spend AUS $1200 on an item i cant c or touch. Also, i found this site www.infinitecaraudio.com that have focal speakers and subs way cheaper than i can get here, eg a set of focal 6.5" rear speakers are AUS $97, whereas here their close to AUS $500.

As could imagine, after buying 6 speakers, 2 subs, 2 amps, a deck, monitor and dvd player, the savings would b enormous.

Can u guys offer me any advice, and/or soothe my worries about buying gear off the net, or even give me some online stores to browse ???

Thanks, Sam

I got some of my stuff from EBay, some from sounddomain.com. As far as EBay, make sure the seller has a execllent feedback rating, don't just look for the lowest price.

"If it's too good to be true, it probably is"

I did save alot of money over retail, and I got Alpine and Focal.

I have the same opinion. I purchased all of the stereo equipment either from eBay or discount internet retailers. Same advice too; just use some common sense when buying stuff. High + positive feedback on eBay and legit return policies from websites. Cheers to you and good luck...

Try

speedandsound.com
etronics.com
electronicheadquarters.com
or even use Bizrate.com if you know the exact component you want, they'll give you the best price they find on the net.

thanks for the advice guys. After browsing those sites uve listed, i still find the gear at infinitecaraudio.com to be the cheapest.....also their web store front looks trustworthy enough LOL. A friend mentioned that i may have to pay tax on the items i purchase when they arrive in Aus, so im just going to purchase the rear Focal speakers (165 CA 6.5") as theyre the cheapest element, and use that as a trial run.

Thanks again, and if ne1 views this thread, plz dont hesitate in giving ur experience with purchasing stuff off the net.

I bought every piece of my equipment on eBay. I used different sellers for almost everything. Saved ove half price and everything arrived on-time and was brand new in the box.
Good Luck,
Clayton
