I’m not sure if this is of much interest, but it may save some time and effort for anyone configuring this setup. I spent some time determining the best setting for Garvin GVN52 navigation box with a Farenheit Screen. These setting favor a crisp text display; and the maps, buttons, and graphics look great. The most important setting is Color. For this combination, you want to set Color and Tint very low, otherwise you see “ghosting” on the text.

EDIT: These are recommended settings for a Farenheit T-7001MHR screen. Settings for a Farenheit T-7000MHR or a Power Acoustik PT-700MHR are very different. I did this edit because I did not make this clear in my original posting.

 

I'll keep that in mind. Do you like the GVN 52? I've been looking into purchasing one actually.

 

Love it. Hard to beat the intuitive (i.e., simple) interface, lots of features, and no moving parts. Once I figured out the correct setting to use on the Farenheit, I would say the maps look great.

There aren’t many reviews available for the GVN52, probably because it’s fairly new and not exactly mainstream. However, the GVN52 uses nearly identical application software and the Naveteq data base as the Garmin Nuvi 660. The Nuvi 660 consistently receives very favorable reviews. Garmin has been producing GPS software and devices as long as any, and it shows.

Some users might complain about the lack of touch-screen, but I prefer using the remote (can’t stand an LCD covered in fingerprints). --Spike

 

I was going to buy the same Garmin unit but for "a little" more coin you can do a CarPC amd have nav and alot more. Just my humble 2 cents!

For now, I decided to just go with just navigation. The Garmin GVN52/Farenheit combination was so inexpensive (I paid <$500 for the GVN52 and <$100 for the Farenheit LCD), and installation is a snap.

Pull the center console and center dash piece, drop in the Farneheit. Put the GVN52 in one of the rear cubby spaces, mount the GPS antenna on the rear strut bar, connect 7 wires (power line to ACC, 2nd power line to fused continuous, composite video to the Farenheit, left audio and right audio to the H/U, and the audio mute line if the H/U supports this.
