Amp briefly cuts out
Hey guys I have to amps in the stock bose area. Originialy i had just the sub amp and worked fine never any issues. I added the second amp on a shelf above to sub amp and added a small fan to cool them down. Now upon adding the second amp and such when i listen top music my subs turn off for maybe 3 seconds then come back on for a lil then do the same. THe Sub amp is 2 channel running 2ohms and gain is maybe 3/4 way up max, amp putting out 50w under rms rating. The 2 amps are turned on by the turn on lead, the fan i tapped into the acc wire from head unit. ANyone have any idea why they it turns itself off for that lil second. Volt meter says batter stil at like 14.2 minimum. Thanks
I would really want to see this in person before giving any advice, but the way I would troubleshoot this is to disconnect everything that is connected to the problem in any way. Fans, amps, caps, everything then start putting it back in 1 piece at a time until you duplicate the problem, then take out a piece that worked prior to the final addition, and try to simulate the problem again. Even this method won't give you a definitive answer as to what the problem is, but it may get you looking in the right direction.
Lets say the speaker wires in the box some how cross would this make the amp cut out for a second and then come back on. The amp when it cuts out for like 3 seconds and comes back on for awhile then does the same. Has me totally confused cuz i thought it was heat first so i put in the fan. and the wiring on the amp hasnt been touched since it was originialy installed and worked fine alone. but once i added the second amp this problems occurs. COuld it be the 2 amps are on the same ground or the same turn on lead or what?
its profile california ap1000. Its two channel 2ohm stable 4-ohm in bridged. The subs a dvc4 paralled. The amp rms is 300x2 at 2 ohms exactly what the subs rating are. THey worked fine for the month it was the only amp in the cubby but since the second amp was added this problem occured.
so you are running two subs at 2ohm stereo?
a few things i can think of:
1. bad amp, the profile stuff arent known for good relaiblity
2. if you are running the new fan off the remote lead, it may be too much load ont he remote wire to run both amps, and the fan...put it on a relay or if the fan is for some reason touching soething and make it bogg down, it draws a lot more for a brief period overloading the remote wire
3. when you added the amp, did you make sure no wires are touching, loose ground connections?
basically, what you wanna find out is when the amp cuts out, what doe sit do?
it will either:
1. turn off competely (power light goes off then on), if this is the case, then it maybe a loose connection at the power/ground/remote termina or a overloaded remote wire. or just a bad power supply internally. since you are measuring 14.2 volts i will assume it snot that...did you also measure the voltage the instant the amp shuts off?
2. if it goe sinto protect, then its either impedance or temprature. check for wires strands touching, make sure everyhing is wire up correctly (subbox internal wiring? etc)...or it again could be a faulty amp.
the goal is to see what exactly is going on when it shuts off

thanks for the help. The fan is controlled of the ACC wire from the head unit but the 2 amps are on the turn on lead and sicne the problem started when i added the second amp could that be the issue? There is no relay just tapped in at the back of head unit and two wires ran. And the amps and fan are grounded to the front of the cubby hole. Thanks for the advice just trying to get as much up front before i start my repair friday.
