iwas told by the shop who is going to install my audio equip. that there is really no need to run 4 guage wire and 8 guage would be fine for the amps I am using, wich are JL 300/2 and Jl 500/1. I know 4 guage is about double the price,but is it worth it.

I would run 4ga for sure. I dont know the amperage draw of those two amps, but its got to enough for 4ga.

 

If I remember correctly, the 500/1 requires 40 or 50 amps. the 300/4 (similar to the 300/2) needs 40 or 50 as well. Use 4 gauge. 8 gauge can handle about 50 amps but as the length of wire goes up, the wire's capacity decreases. Use 4 gauge to a fused distribution block, then 8 gauge from the block to the amps. The 8 gauge runs need only be about 3-4 feet at the most.

 

Definitely run 4 gauge and with both those amps mounted in the trunk (taking the farthest distance in the car and assuming 100amps draw) you'll almost need 0 gauge (with maybe a foot or two to spare).

 

I would run 4 to a distribution block then run 8 from there out... Just remember to get a fused block and make sure you add up the amps for each fuse on the block, make sure it = the amout of amps that you put in the block right after the bat... I hope this is to confussing...

 

for the amps that you are using, I would go with at least 2 awg from the front to the distribution block and 4 awg out to the amps.

 

yeah, go with 4awg. That way if you upgrade, no need to rerun cables.
