where the stock sub goes.....
So I am getting a free infinity 8" sub from a friend. it has a box already, but I want to put the sub where the stock sub goes (my z does not have the sub). I was wondering if anyone has done a DIY sub install there?

thanks for the help. I am basically just wondering the simplicity of putting my own sub back there? Maybe popping the plastic piece out, cutting a hole for the sub, and mounting it in there....I was mostly wondering if anyone had done that. I just dont want to put a big box in the back hatch area

you can also buy a Fiberglass box made for that area (Nazar makes them)...you'll have to figure out a way to mount your sub to the metal frame that's already there - shouldn't be too hard.
*most ppl say that un-sealed subs don't sound too good...
**you could try to seal that area, but there's lots of small holes and it's a big volume.

I don't remember if you need to remove the sides and the rear hump to get the plastic behind the seats off, but it's not to bad of a job. My recommendation, deaden the space, build a box, and strap it down, the problem I think you will find is where to stick the amp. It's possible to fit it in the space as long as you are careful with your measuring, and you keep your box small. It'll be a hassle anyway you do it though.

There's not too much room under there either, and the floor pans are not flat...... The seat mounts are at different heights to compensate. I don't know how big your amp is, I know you said tiny, but everything is relative. Forewarned and forearmed and all that......

I have a small amp and it easily fits under the passenger seat. If it is really small you could also mount it to the back of the wall behind the seat. It has to be really low because the seat leans back there though.
If you are just removing the panel all you have to do is pop the cover off. If you want to take the bracket out you wil need to loosen the center console and pull the top and bottom of the trim panel back so you can fit a wrench in there. You don't have to take it all apart but just enough. It's not much work.

I had a 10" JL W3v2 in the stock sub location. I ended up moving it like so many others have. That position is horrible for sound quality; far too directional and doesn't fill the cabin. Put it under the strut or in the rear corner with a Nazar box and save the hassle.

well I now have the sub in my possession, and the box it is in (which is AMAZING quality built by infinity specifically for the sub) does not fit in the back hatch anywhere

You don't have to take the plastic cover off the hump. Just the side panels. Start with the door sill trim pieces, then lift the seal till you can pull the side pieces off.
Remove the glove box door and the panel behind the driver's seat. Also you will have to remove the two screws that hold the rear end of the center console down. After all that is done you can start unsnapping that big piece of trim that covers behind the seats, unplug the cig lighter and baddabing, it's out. It can be a bit of a struggle because it's big but if you unsnap carefully as you go, you should not break any of the fasteners.
I would not mount the sub to the plastic panel, it will rattle and buzz like all get out....
