very nice james glad i could give you any help that you needed

my question always has been this though, if someone is so adamant about savint hte deadpedal, then wouldnt it make moer sense to do them offaxis, cuase if you do them on axis, you get two twhings:

1. its hard to reach the deadpedal at all anyway, unless you have small feet

2. it just decreases the internal volume of the kickpanel whcih may cause coloration (but again, not pointing to you because you only have hte midrange down there not hte midbass)

just curious hehe

but it really really does look awesome

Thanks guys,
16psibrick to answer your question, its not that bad for my deadpedal then i thought. And your right midrange is ok with it there, its the midbass that needed the volume. When i put the midbass in the door pod i had to open up the back to the door cavity.

Clothing it wasnt to bad, Easyer then i thought.

Looks Awesome! I am on the brink of building some kick pods for my JL Xr's.

Question: Is the advantage of these to give the mid a sealed enclosure? I saw another thread where the guy cut a hole behind the mid... https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=31971
(I guess for more clearance). Also, what did you cover yours with? It looks factory and classy. Lastly, does yours have several layers of fiberglass behind the cloth fabric?

Any advice for a do-it-yourselfer would be great!

Thanks

This really depends on the driver you are installing. MOST car audio mid woofers are made for an infinite baffle install. Meaning they are made to sound best NOT in a sealed enclosure, just completely seal off the front from the rear of the driver. However, some of these drivers are also well suited for a sealed enclosure. This said, many mid woofers will sound fine either way. The ones that do well in the sealed off pods of a good volume exhibit punchier, stronger mid bass. Another option which is sort of a hybrid between sealed, and infinite baffle is an aperiodic enclosure. Most mid woofers will do well in this configuration.

I checked out the other thread, looks like he cut it out for clearance. I only have a hole to feed my wires through. I dont think there is any real advantages to having a sealed or open kick pod, other then an open would let sound from the back of the speaker to pass through, IE road noise, like on the door speakers. I cover mine with black speaker cloth. As for the layers, i only use 1 layer of old cotton tie shirt, and about 2 layers of fiberglass resin, with one top layer of body fill mixed with fiberglass resin, to get a thick liquid mix.

Thank you both for the info. I am saving the kick panel project for after my aluminum amp rack behind the drivers seat. Think I will take pics tonight and give a step by step.
