most ported enclsoures are tuned at what? 30-50hz? below that the output rapidly drops...if you want hte ground shattering ultra low stuff thats felt more than heard, the sub30hzish, sealed enclosure are the way to go. sure you can tune a box to like 20hz ported, but that owuld require a pretty long port, and may not go all that well...but evne then, the ultra low sutff still wont be as good as a sealed box...

again, we are talking about the ultra low stuff, below the porting freq...
