I noticed the panasonic is 2.5 volts compared to the pioneer 4 volts? is there a big difference? ..looking for a decent HU to go with a full ED system. Im not into all the bluetooth/ipod ect options, just want clear sound while being reliable..Thanks!

The Pioneer might offer ~slightly~ better sound quality, due to possibly higher quality internals and the 4v outputs.
The panasonic offers more features and more bang for the buck. Unless you are going to sound deaden the heck out of the Z and if you aren't a slave to brand names, then I would go for the Panasonic. You will have a color screen, more features and a great price.
If you are planning on sound deadening the Z to make it extremely quiet (so you can take advantage of the assumed better sound quality) and you are one who loves your brand names, then go for the Pioneer. Pioneer gets more love in the car audio community than Panasonic. (not sure why, pannys are good solid units)

I have bought 3 Pioneer HUs in the past 3 years. 2 for my cars, one for my sister last month and one for my cousin last summer. I have been real satisfied with the build quality and the SQ.
If you are looking for panasonic, sometimes crutchfield clearences them out real cheap.

Pioneer FTW ! I have installed both brands and panasonics just feel cheaper as far as button feel and lcd graphics/GUI ect. As stated above unless your going all out with the audio system I would'nt buy based on preamp output. The pioneer is a more expensive feeling unit for a nice car ( 350z, not a honda ).

I have had sony, alpine, audiovox, Craig, pioneer, eclipse, and clarion. But now I will buy nothing but Panasonic since I got my CQ-VD7500 single din dvd HU. Absolutley the best ever in SQ and build quality!
I have a Pioneer 5800 and it sounds really great. The problem is, and this may hold true for all HUs (this is my first with MP3 capability), that when you are listening to a CD with alot of MP3s on it, it is a royal PITA to navigate from song to song. There is no quick scroll through the song titles to find what you are looking for. You start at point A and hit next 20 times to get to the 20th song, etc.. Mine does have a feature that allows you to jump 10 at a time which is mildly helpful if you know the exact number of the track. I would suggest taking a disc with you and play around with it. GL
