Some Help Needed with Sub/Amp install
since I imagine alot you have alot more experiance at this then I do maybe you can help me.
this isn't my first audio install but it is my first in a Z.
Ran my power just fine, ground to a piece of metal kinda in the middle of the glove boxes, rca and power control from headunit, amp KAC-81520 powering two subs (wired for mono 2ohm draw)
hooked and powered everything up and all I got is a super faint weak amount of sound from subs and my service engine soon light is now on (never seen it on before.)
I'm completly baffled right now and tired from a long couple of hours installing.
any suggestions on what to trouble shoot would be awesome.

what have you checked so far?...things to start checking:
1) does the amp turn on?
-do you have 12V at the amp?
-is there a good ground?
2) are all the RCA connection secure? (maybe it's loose
3) amp settings...what's the gain at?
4) do the speakers work?
5) have you installed anything else latley?

Is your ground connection solid? Did you scrape the paint, or assume the threads of the screw were good enough?
Is your RTO wire reading 12v when referenced to your ground connection?
The check engine light comes on when the car is not running, did you start the car or just have the key on?
Did the amps turn on? If not, why not.
do you have to turn on the subwoofer output from your head unit?
Is the sub output turned way down out of your head unit?
do you have the high pass filter turned on instead of the low pass filter?

hey guys thanks for a good list to go through.
one mistake I think I made was not scrapeing paint off, it looks so deceivingly like metal in there it slipped my mind.
I'm gonna go back over my ground and power connections and see what happens.
i'll post follow up tomorrow.
thanks again

it's the first thing I put, because that's the mistake I made. I scraped the paint, just not enough of it, and that caused all kinds of problems. Good luck, Let us know how it turns out.

Sanding Down More Paint FTW!!!
I feel so stupid for not having a better ground to begin with. So now I have bass!
I've got to play with the settings more because even when trying to make it obnoxious it still isn't all that loud.. I guess I expect more out of 550 watts.
Service Engine Soon light is still on. My guess it has something to do with messing around with the battery... any suggestions? Do I need to go to Nissan?

I don't know about the service engine light, I know when I did my system I couldn't get the windows to work with the key in the on position, however after starting the car to take it to a friends house I found the windows worked fine. I assume it had something to do with disconnecting the door wiring, and the battery, and all that, but I never did figure out why it didn't work until I started the engine.
I'm glad there was a simple solution to the one problem. I hope the second problem gets solved as easily as the first. GL

Systems working much better now.. need to fine tune it, and my check engine lights still on but anyways here's some photos..
the amp's installed in the bose glovebox area. I plan on making a little carpeted cover to go over the space and brackets in front of the rack. not that many will see it, as is the point of the instal but it'll make me feel better when I look at it!
Two RF Punch 10's (Dual 2ohm) wired for a 2ohm mono load. I also loved these because it kept with the chrome silver and black theme.
Kenwood DDX7015 touchscreen in dash. I love this but I'm selling it over in the marketplace becuase I'm ready for something new!
Oh and a little shot of my car. I know its dirty today. And I know I should lower it but I live in the Pocono Mountains... not blessed by flat pavement everywhere.. I'm gonna stick with my stock suspension. (plus lowered car camber issues FTL! ) My INGS Side skirts are being painted.
