Default Need help with Kenwood DDX-6019 and KNA-G510 Nav

I just installed the KNA-G510 nav unit today to go with my DDX-6019, and when I powered up the car, nothing happened. It's like the nav isn't there. I hooked it up correctly, positioned the antenna at the base of the windshield under a single layer of plastic, checked all the connections, checked the BAT and ACC wires that I tapped into the fuse box for proper power and condition, checked the ground (grounded the ground wire and parking brake safety wire together), etc, etc. Everything seems fine. There is nothing on the unit itself to indicate whether or not it is operating (stupid, IMO), and the instructions don't say a damn thing about initializing the unit; just says it'll take a few min for the first satellite aquisition, but I get no nav screens on the headunit at all and when I switch to the nav vid display, it's just blank as ussual and says "Navigation Off" in the corner. Any ideas??? I'm stumped.

You have to go into set up on the DDX6019 and switch the Navigation to RGB.

Did that (it was already set there, anyway). No luck. Anything else? Some setting in the headunit I'm missing?

I installed the same kit Memorial day weekend. Trying to think of something to contribute. All I can think of is double check your connections between the nav box and the head unit. I spliced the 4 thin wires from the nav box right into the same wires coming off the head unit's harness. Once I figured out how to get the nav display everything came right up. The nav unit's data cable plugs into the pigtail connector hanging off the back, not the one that's flush mounted...

SON OF A...!!!

Well, I guess that explains it. WTF would they have two identical plugs on the headunit??? I would have known, had I had the HU's installation guide on hand, but I just moved and it's ina box in storage. Well, crap; just when I was thinking I would never have to tear apart the dash again... At any rate, I feel better knowing what I did. THANK YOU for responding and remembering as much as you could; I'll sleep better tonight for sure.

Ok, got it working. Now a few questions about operation:

1. can the remote be used with the unit?

2. is there a "hot key" to get you directly back to the map screen from any given other screen? Haven't played with it much, but backing clear out from a screen just to get back to the map is a PITA.

The flush connector is for a Satellite radio tuner and / or cd changer.

I use the remote for controlling DVD movie menus and transport controls like fast forward, fast backward and jumping segments. I thought the touch screen might support at least the DVD menus but it didn't when I tried it.

I've not yet found a way to "jump" directly to the map screen after dialing in a route or changing a map setting.

My understanding is that the new unit (7190 I think?) has an improved interface as well as integrated NAV but not sure if that is part of the improvement.

I did find a way to turn off the map data fields along the right side of the screen which is nice for a bigger display (Settings, Map, Map Data Fields)
