Default 03 nav cubby in my 06!

........but what a b**** of a job! The 06 dash has actually changed quite a bit when you offer up older pieces it's pretty surprising just how much.
I wanted nav, chose the Kenwood LZ 702W touch screen and KNA G520 nav unit. I had to hack the cubby to pieces and piece it together to get the bits to mate with the 06 central piece of dash. The only mod I did to the original car piece was shorten the bottom 2 connecting pins where the screws go into. It's not perfect, and I can't close the door, the main focus was getting the sides to fit right.....but I'm happy anyway!

Looks nice actually. Good job.

Did you take any pictures of the sides/back where you "hacked" away to get the parts to fit? You know your fellow '06/'07 owners are going to ask.

Looks good, I am running the same setup (g510 instead of 20). How did you get the sides lined up? Just curious I used pieces of the plastic from the backing plate that came with the monitor.

Not bad at all! Where did you get the cubby from and can you get a cloes up of the skins? They look like they match well but I thought they were different?

The sides lined up because I cut away the bottom portion of the cubby, then reduced the height of the bottom 2 screw holes, the radius of the cubby sides match perfectly, just need all the other bits out of the way!

Sorry, no step by step pics, I wasn't sure it was even going to work, I just hacked and stuck until the faces met

The faces are the same colour and texture, but the door is much smaller. I did look into swaping doors, but tbh, I just wanted nav, I don't mind the open door

Anyway, I fitted it today, here's finished pics

yes that looks like it! I bought mine used though, but it was the 03 car's nav cubby, and yes the little finisher is required for the front of the screen.
Mine is actually stuck on with velcro, so I can lift the finisher off if I need to get to the buttons, holds it very tight, in fact it was the velcro which came with the Kenwood nav unit. If you want some closer pics, just ask

That's the only difference I saw when I went looking for info on the g520.

I know you can play with the route colors, not sure about the title bar colors, but it may be possible. I'll have to check when I go home today, I know you can change a lot though.

Awesome, let me know when you do, I don't wanna miss it. I'm actually going to modify my install a little bit. I want to be able to use the monitors auto-dim feature, but with the finishing plate in place it is always dim. So I'm thinking of cutting out a little section where the sensor is so it can sense the light better and only dim when it goes into "sunset mode". I was going to look in the manual and see if it could dim the screen when the nav dimmed it based on time. It gets a little bright at night otherwise
