Default Is it just a standard double DIN space?

I was under the impression that the 350Z uses a standard double-DIN stereo mount. If this is the case, then you should be able to get any single-DIN headunit you wish, and get a standard single-DIN pocket to fill the remaining space.

Assuming the 350 is using double-DIN, there shouldn't be any need to have any special work done to fit single-DIN equipment. My two previous Japanese vehicles (Toyota) had double-DIN stereos, and it was very easy to remove them and put in single DIN equipment.

Does anyone know how much cheaper these stereos are if bought oversees and sent back, vs. online? And why don't we get anything half this cool? I am thinking of getting an all-in-one Rosen unit, but then again, some of these are pretty damn cool:

Panasonic CQ-TX5500D

Sony WX-5900MD

Sony

That's got to still be one of my favorites. I think it was gonna cost close to $1k to get one of these units over here. Not to mention how the vacuum tube's gonna fair with the bumpy ride of the Z. I'm still waiting for them to produce a black faced version of this one like they do with one of the other models.

I have seen a single din Nakamichi with a 6 disc changer in it
but I hear the size makes for problems down the line and service in USA is hard to find. They make some nice double dins but as sites are in Japanese I don't know if they have in dash changers.

Take a look at the CQ-VX3030D and the Sony WX-5900MD - notice how far out from the mounting area they stick? Is this necessary, or is this just how they took the picture? Since the face folds down, if I recess the whole thing so that it is flush, will the door jam on the opening?

Questions questions . . .

Thanks for the link - my search didn't come up with that (dunno why??)

Is the 770 undersized? Or is the 350Z opening oversized? Am I to assume that no matter what double din unit I install, It will never go from edge to edge of the opening?

That would s -u - k.

A quick google search turned up this:

http://www.melting-pot.com/website/products.html#sony

Don't know anything about the reliability of this e-tailer, but there are also some UK sites that sell Sony MDX units and are willing to ship to the US (and I might be able to help anyone who purchases from a UK site get around excessive shipping costs and import duties... legally... e-mail stopgo dot blog at virgin dot net)
