Hi all,

Installed an AVIC-D3 last night but got hung up on the Sirius tuner install. I'd rather not run the constant power wire through the firewall if I don't have to. Is there a good 12v constant power source under the dash somewhere that would supply enough power for a satellite tuner? I can't imagine it requires all that much power...

Could you not use the constant from the headunit harness? Now, you do want it constant and not switched, correct? Depending on the headunit harness,,,,most constants are yellow with the red being switched....

 

I could, just concerned i might be too much having the HU and satellite tuner on the same little wire...

 

I have done it in a couple of cars without any issue. It should be ok.

Well I just ended up running the wire from the battery...wasn't as difficult as I thought.

 

how exactly would you do this? just solder it, or crimp it right to the existing connection?
i'm about to install a new HU and sirius box and i see myself asking the same question about this one stingy connection. i'm guessing it wouldnt help to tap in to the rear cigarette lighter since its not constant?

and to nramsey, where did you run the wire through the firewall?

 

U can either use a wire tap ( a plastic piece that will do all of the splicing dirty work for you) or you simply remove some of the sheilding and solder the wire on there

 

I ran the power wire through a big rubber grommet behind the battery on the passenger side. There is writeup on here somewhere but I can't find it at the moment.
