Default Well, got my system........

i am looking to overhaul the factory system. i went to a local shop that is pretty well recommended by others and they seem cool and honest. their biggest sellers seem to be Memphis stuff (subs/speakers/amps). my question is, is Memphis any good? i don't want to drop too much cash on my system, just want something that sounds nice and clean, my ear drum killing days are over.

also i was looking into new head units and i really like the JVC kw-avx800. anyone have any experience with this unit or know anyone who has?

thanks in advance, sorry for being a n00b.

jim

I like they're amps, but for the price you might want to look into other subs and speakers

any recommendations? i have always been an infinity fan, is their newer stuff still good?

also, is it recommended that i change out the factory tweeters or are they okay for a "novice" system. i am not trying to build a SPL system or anything, just something clean and louder than the factory crapola.

All depends on how much you're willing to spend. For speakers you definitely want to go with components. I've ran a set of Infinity Reference Series before and for the price they were pretty good. I've got a set of CDT M6 mids with drt 26 tweeters and satnet 560 crossovers and I've got nothing but compliments from anyone thats heard them. Checkout woofersetc.com for a nice list of stuff. They're prices are high though, just about retail, but they kinda give you a wide range of whats out there.

I am going to try out Memphis on my next project, something more mid budget and quality oriented. My shop is also a HUGE memphis supporter and it seems that Memphis has a good following, similiar to that of JL, in other areas of the country. I used one of them amps as a loaner from the shop due to my JL 500/1 going on the fritz and the Memphis was actually cleaner. That got me to thinking of trying the rest of their lineup out. Their M3 series subs look sick too. Decent power handling and also fairly moderately sized and heavy considering their output. Haven't really heard their comps, but I have heard all Memphis systems they installed for customers and show cars and they were very nice.

I had Memphis comps in all 4 corners of my prior vehicle. I was very pleased with them. Plus I was told when I bought them that they have a lifetime warranty. They were very affordable and well worth it to me. Good luck..

i bought my stuff today and it will be installed tomorrow morning, YAY!

what i ended up with:

JVC KW-AVX800 head unit
Soundstream Tarantula series SST6.5 (4 of them)
Massive Audio RW10 subs (2)
Massive Audio P 500.1 monoblock amp
Massive Audio P 200.2 amp

i am actually leaving the factory tweeters in for now. the box is going to be a temp as well. this shop opened not too long ago and they are trying to get their name out there, so the owner told me he would give me a hookup on fiberglassing the subs into the car. i've seen their work on a guys Jeep Commander and i am pretty excited. besides, they seemed to be excited about "going crazy" in the trunk of the Z. we shall see i guess.

anyways, will have some pics up tomorrow.

I'm interested in seeing pics of the install and the equipment. But I would not leave the factory tweets hooked up. They will most likely only discolor the sound of your aftermarkets. You can leave them in, but disconnect them.

i love this setup so far. please ignore the dirt in the car, i am about to clean it as we speak. comments welcome. i guess the shop is going to start fiberglassing it in a week or two so this setup is temporary.
