Default Help!!!! big mistake...please help me

well, after not wanting to spend hundreds for installation for all my audio equipment, i installed it myself...everything was working fine until i had used some screws to screw down the amp rack on the box of a Zenclosure 2 10" sub box...after screwing that down secure, i realized that one of my two amps, the 2 channel going to my subs, was not working...i had to take it apart again and saw that i had drilled a screw through one of my subwoofer negative wires...now my problem is that all of a sudden my 2 channel sub doesnt turn on...i checked the fuse and its fine, i still have door speakers and my 4 channel still works, and i checked the power terminal and remote wire terminal with a tester and i am getting power to both ends there....what else can i check??? what can it be??? please help me...thank you

Doesn't sound good if your getting power at the amp. You checked the inline fuse, but does the amp have a fuse? maybe an internal one?
If all those check out ok, you may have toasted your amp

well, its simple:

take the amp to the battery, run one wire to the neg bat post from the neg terminal of the amp, two other wires from the positive terminal to the POS and REMOTE terminals ont he amp...

if it turns on, then the amp is okay...and your isue could be say with the remote wire in the car perhaps..

if it doesnt turn on, and any fusing ont he outside of the amp is fine (replace them even if htey look fine), then you probably need to get the amp repaired.

If what 16psibrick doesnt work, then it sounds like the internal component may have been damaged, since the screw penetrated the wire and was in contact with the metal chassy. You could call alpine and see if they might help, but youd have to wait tell monday morning since they are closed on the weekends.

But if you think thats upsetting, I been working on my IVA-W205 with the KCE-300BT. It was giving me noise ever time i tried playing music from my ipod witch connects thru the KCE-300BT. Come to find out that my H701 DSP was picking up the noise and not the Head unit. Ended up taking back the KCE-300Bt for refund. Then i had to trouble shoot why my IVA-W205 was only displaying Audio and not all the other menus under Setup. Found that my remote wire got unpluged when moving my head unit around Now its on too why my left and right speakers sound different, i may have found the colpret, my 3-way cross over for my Folcals maybe bad. So i have desided to run each speaker to its own channeled amp. More testing to happen tomorrow morning. What a weekend

james, the screw didnt come in contact with the metal chassis...the screw went threw the speaker wire from the box with the 10's to the negative terminal of the amp....it really should not have that much importance to the amp i think...but i am no expert...i mean im still getting power from the battery terminal and remote wire terminal...oh well i really hope i didnt mess anything up

Well, regardless of what touched what and where it touched, the Op is now left with the end result that must be dealt with... Amp that wont turn on, and probably needs to be repaired. Sorry man, I wish we had a better diagnosis.

You grounded out the negative wire of the amplifier - not good. The chassis of the amplifer is power ground/chassis ground. The negative terminal of the amplifier CAN NOT be be grounded to chassis in about 99 out of 100 amplifiers without causing badthings. That ranges from the amplifier going into self-protection shutdown to smoking power transistors.

ok guys i tried 16psibricks method of checking out the amp and it turned on when i took out the amp and tested it to the battery...this means it must be the power wire or something right?

Thats odd since you tested power at the amp, maybe your remote on wire was damaged. But its good news nonetheless. Run a new remote on wire back and try it again in the original location. Are you sure your ground for that amp is good?

if it turns on, then what you wanna do is this:

take the amp and put it back to whree you had it, hook power ground and remote wire up

if it doesnt turn on:

1. take a little wire and jump (connect) the POS terminal of hte amp with the remote terminal of the amp.

if htis turns on, then you have a bad remote wire that you need to fix

if this doesnt turn on:

2. take another wire, and hook it to the ground terminal of hte amp and then physically make it contac ta BARE (paint sanded away) part of hte floor or chasis. if htis turns on the amp, then you have a weak or bad ground wire

if this does not work:

take another long wire, run it from the battery POS termainl upfront, ALL the way to the POS terminal of the amp, as long as you dont have anyhting playing through it and it sjust idling, you can use a thin spekaer wire to do it itsfine.

if this turns on its your power wire...

if it still does not turn on then you ma have a combination of broken wires...

so go through steps 1 and 2 again with this long wire from the POS of hte battery connected and see whcih step makes it turn on, and there you have the issue.
