help installing Pioneer AVHP6800
Do I need to buy some sort installation kit for this or does it just fit in the dash ?
It has some stupid square face plate that came with it but that doesn't help. There is a big gap between the deck and the consule. What the hell am I missing!!?

Seriously dude, first get your checklist of items you will need & some research then you'll be ready to go. It's a great learning experience to do your own work! Just make sure you use this site's avaliable resources to make this install a project of pride!

I have the metra wiring kit and I do know what I'm doing. It's just that the plate that came with the deck looks pretty crappy when installed. I thought there might be something else out there that would be a better fit. I must say I do REALLY appreciate all the DYI info on this sight!!

you need to get an install kit. the kit comes with the parts you need to take care of that.
When you put in an aftermarket head unit you need to see what you need.
1:You will always need the wire harness adapter. This is the plug that gets wired to the aftermarket HU and plugs into the factory car wiring harness. That away you dont need to cut your cars wiring harness.
2: you need to see it you will need to purchase any OEM intergration parts. To either make the onstar work or the door buzzer. Most of the time these are in GM based vehicles.
3: you need to look and see if your aftermarket HU is the exact same size as the OEM HU. If the aftermarket is smaller and the OEM has a shape to it you will need to track down and installation kit. These are made by either Metra or Scosche.
One of the best sites you can see what you need for install kits is Crutchfield.com
If you have any questions PM me.
