killer switch?
do you think it is a good idea to wire the fuel pump with a killer switch?
if yes, any idea where NOT to place the switch to make it more difficult for thieves?
a co worker just had his car stolen today...
thanks

hmmm thats interesting. ... i would say be creative as to the location, somewhere you can easily reach but very well hidden. ... i dont know what adverse affects this would have if any
You don't need a kill switch.
The key has a transmitter in it that has to match a receiver in the Z's BCM unit. If they don't match, no start. It is almost impossible to hotwire a Z to steal it. The thief has a better chance flatbedding the Z than hotwiring it.
Oh yeah, forget about trying other keys...the code changes each time the key is used, and after three trys with the wrong codes, the ignition locks out for a preset time...

not to mention ... if u r that concerned just take the fuel pump fuse out when u r in a questionable area. If like other nissans it should be in the cabin easily accessable.

I had DEI's Car*Com on my mr2 spyder. Any thing I could do from my alarms remote I could do over the telephone. I had my fuel pump hooked up to my alarm so I could kill the car over the phone in case I was to get "car jacked". I also had a kill switch hidden under my shift boot that I could barely fill, and you had to know exactly were it was. Very hidden. I never even told my best friends about it. As far as the immobilizer in your key. That only helps if someone doesnt have your key. What if you get robbed at your car, your kids snag your key while your asleep, someone has dupicate key, etc. I have one or more keys from every car I ever owned.
If the immobilizer function supposedly cannot be circumvented, then how are all the 350z owners with the viper xv-790 or similar remote start system making use of the remote start function via their alarm controls???
If they can work around it for remote start, can't they presumably also hotwire the car??? I don't know much about electronics so that's why I'm asking.

The DEI remote start uses a hideaway module that sends a signal to the immobilzer circuit in the car ONLY when you use the DEI transmitter to start the car. After the car starts by remote control, the module is disconnected from the immobilizer circuit. Any other time, the module is inactive, giving you the same security level as if the remote start was not there.
Also, Encore, if someone were to carjack me at gunpoint, I would want them as far away from me as quickly as possible. Having a kill switch under this situation is not good. You can always replace the car, but you can't replace your life!
In this situation, a GPS tracking system, or Lojack would be a better solution than a kill switch...let law enforcement get the bad guys and recover your car.
