A Good Basic System
I got tired of the car audio "blowhards" trying to sell me on a 2500.00 system, when all I wanted was some clean volume and an Ipod hookup for the "Z". "it's like 10% of the car" they said, and I'm like "so you spent 10% of your house on your TV setup". I've had nice systems (Alpine / Sony / Boston), but now there are more important things than a 2500.00 car stereo.
I took it upon myself as a challenge to prove this could be done for +/- 1000.00 including installation (because I do not want to take the "Z" apart.
Here is what I came up with.
Headunit Alpine 9883 = $199.99 w/ ipod cable, metra kit, and harnesses
PAC Steering Wheel adapter $69.99
Tsunami 8 gauge wiring kit $30.00
1 extra 17' rca cable $15.00
Zenclosure 10" box $105.00 (used)
Zenclosure spacers $27.00 (new)
1 pair Kenwood 6 3/4" p707 components $99.00 (not a typo 99.00 new)
infinity 7540 4 x 111 amp $91.00 (refurb w/sub $114.00 w/o sub)
10" pioneer sub $45.00
Install $350.00
Total $1002.00
So, How does it sound. IMHO very good. Loud enough to hurt your ears (if you want to and still clean. Clean w/ great tone at normal volumes. my only disappointment is w/ the PAC unit some time it hesitates when you click track up/down or volume up/down if you do it fast.
All in all it's a good basic system and the $1500.00 I saved by not using a "car audio shop" went to by 4 18" rays forged and clearbra and tint.
just my

hey the important hting is you are happy with your system
there is no audio shop that can compete with DIYer and online pricing...but keep in mind not everyone out there has the ability that you may possess to do a clean and good install
however, i do think, looking at your equipment list, one can do quite a bit better in SQ with a little more money spent, but again, if you rae happy with the end result thats all it matters...i am just saying there is a reason why car audio professionals like me are around, and its not to steal your hard earned cash (well, some of us arent
) , some of us do provide noticablly better SQ results

Yes I bridged the rear two channels for the sub.
Bing if you were in TX I WOULD have had you do the work. I just get frustrated by going to CarToys, and other places and every salesman tells me something different (I'd only use alpine, alpine's fair at best, etc). Your work and posts and attention to customers HAS to place you in the top 1% of people in your industry. Also, I agree that a higher level of SQ is obtainable, but most not all of my listening comes from an ipod (so the source is not CD quality), that said the CD's iv listened to so far sound pretty darn good.
Thanks
hehe thanks for hte kind words, i wouldnt call myself the top 1 percent of my industry, but i do try
whenever you get a chance, should try a set of encloused speakres, like kicks or door pods, i think oyu will find the inc4rease in SQ quite dramatic even wit hthe same speakers
