Default FI Q10 sub... question(s)

Hey all,

Ok I'm new to this... But I'm learning... I need a lil help from my fellow Zers.

I own an 07 with the Bose system and am wanting to upgrade it... I have searched the forum keeping in mind that I didn't want to go ridiculously expensive....

So I have decided that I want to go with two FI Q 10" subs... each pumps out 1000 RMS ... unless you think one would be sufficient... they come in either 1 ohm or 2 ohm.

Do you think a Rockford Fosgate T5001BD would be a good amp to match? If so, how many I get would depend on whether I get one sub or two correct?

I have a pioneer avic-d3 as a HU.

What front speakers would you suggest and do you think a Zenclosure box would be necessary??

Sorry for being such a novice but thank you for your help!!

OK, Let's take this 1 thing at a time here:

As for the subs - subs don't 'pump out' 1000 watts, they are rated to handle 1000 watts. is this rating MAX or RMS? this is very important when matching your amp to the sub. The ohm rating of the voice coils is very important also and is crucial for properly matching to your amp. In my opinion, one 10" sub is sufficient for the Z, others will disagree with me.

As for the amp - You need to match the RMS rated power of the amp into a specific load (ohms) to your sub. If your sub has a 2 ohm voice coil and can handle 500 watts RMS, then you want an amp that can produce at least 500 watts RMS into a 2 ohm load. There's a lot more involved once you start talking about multiple subs and multiple voice coils.

For your front speakers - This is a very personal choice. Listen to as many sets as you can and formulate your own opinions on what sounds good to you. Do you like warm or crisp highs? mellow or punchy midbass? What type of music do you listen to? All ths is a factor in what components you buy.

Your headunit choice is a good one.

As for the Zenclosures box - if you don't get a box, what will you put your sub in?

Thank you for your response
Here are the specs on either the Dual 1 or Dual 2 FI Q10"

DUAL 1 | DUAL 2

Fs: 29.0 Hz | 26.2 Hz
Re: 0.70 Ohms/coil | 1.4 Ohms/coil
Qms: 4.80 | 5.10
Qes: .41 | .41
Qts: .38 | .38
Mms: 186g | 202g
Cms: 1.70mm/N | 1.70mm/N
Sd: 310cm^2 | 310cm^2
Vas: 22.3 l | 22.3 l
Spl: 82.9dB 1W/1m | 82.9dB 1W/1m
Bl: 10.4 N/A | 15.1 N/A
Xmax: 27mm
Rms: 1000W
Sealed box: .2-.6 cuft
Ported box: .5-1.2 cuft @ 28-33Hz
Sub OD: 11.000”
Cut ID: 9.250”
Mounting depth: 6.500”
Displacement: 0.12cuft

Obviously, I would need a Zenclosure box if I got two subs... but if I got one would it just replace the Bose sub that's there now? But I don't know where I would mount the amp...

I don't listen to deep bass very often. Typically it's surfy type music where the vocals and acoustic guitars are more important... such as Ben Harper.. Donavon Frankenreiter, Jack Johnson...etc.

Thanks again!

Liz

1 rf t5001bd i fine for 1 each FIq

you will need 2 x 500 for 2 subs

fine choice there guy

you would be hard pressed to beat that set up at that price

the drivers $249 shipped
the amp about $200

do yourself a favor and forget putting the one 10" in the Bose location. Get a Zenclosure (or similar box) and call it a day. The sound will be better and it's a TON less work.

It sounds like you got the sub/amp combo set. Go with a single dual 2ohm voice coil 10" FI sub and that t5001bd amp you are looking at. You will then have 500 rms watts into a 1 ohm load when you wire the voice coils on the sub in parallel.

As for components with that type of music, you might want to look at higher end models from (and I don't know your budget for components) Boston, Focal, Diamond, Morel. These are some of the more.........detail oriented brands. There are others as I'm sure people will chime in with suggestions, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head right now.

What amp are you going to use for the fronts?

Great, your responses are very helpful.
StreetOC - Do you know of any of those component speakers that are easy install and will fit nicely into the stock speaker openings??

Thanks!

Almost any component woofer is going to need a spacer to fit in the stock location. A spacer can be purchased, made from MDF, or made using the plastic housing of the OEM speakers. There are some "slim line" component woofers, but you will sacrifice mid bass with such a driver.
