Default Keyless entry / stereo

Hi All,

I'm in the market for a 2004/2005 350Z. The only thing about this car I don't like is the stereo. So I had the plan of swapping the factory radio with a DVD player. I've seen a lot of people do that to their Zs.

However, only now did I think of keyless entry. Will swapping out stock radio remove keyless entry? Any workarounds?

Thanks for your help!

Plenty of people after aftermarket HU in their Z. Check Audio section. Stock stereo, including Bose system, is POS.

I don't quite get what you're saying about the keyless entry...

EDIT: Oh now I get it lol..it won't affect the keyless entry at all..

I can't remember what car it is... (maybe VW?) but there is at least one car that the keyless entry runs through the stereo. Replacing the stereo will disable the keyless entry. The Z is not one of these cars. replacing your stereo will have no ill effects on the keyless entry.

I think you just logged on at the same time as me and we both start at the top of the page and work down.

BTW, I found out, it's not VW, but Honda that has the keyless receiver built in to the headunit.

Older Honda Civics are that way.

You have to leave the stock radio in the car. They make a T harness and you can tuck the OEM radio back in to the dash to leave it in the vehicle. It's a lot of fun.

Yea, I've actually seen this in a '98 Civic and some other cars - that's why I ask. Just curious, where does Nissan put their keyless receiver then?

Ok, so 350Z doesn't have keyless entry receiver in the stock stereo. It's bye-bye POS factory receiver then!

Thanks, guys!

on my wife's vw Bug with automatic tranny there is something that happens when you replace the stock stereo with an aftermarket deck. Causes the check engine light to come on and the transmission not to shift as it should

yes yes I know that does sound weird, but even my friend who works as a mechanic at VW said the same thing happens when a lot of audi/vw replace their stereo. Once you get the check engine light turned off the first time it will make the transmisison go back to normal.

whoever would have thought the stereo would cause the check engine light to go on! crazy vw's

I've never heard that on a VW, but I have heard that if you replace the OEM deck with an aftermarket deck and the dealership plugs in their diagnostic equipment the aftermarket deck can damage their equipment. Dealerships make people remove their aftermarket units before having any service done.
