Default Recommend some speakers please

This is all going in my Lincoln Aviator. I am going with a 13w7 in a ported box powered by a JL 1000/1. I'm also getting a JL 450/4 in a package deal. The Aviator has 5x7 speakers in all four doors with no tweeters. I want the best speaker made for under 400/pair for front and rear. Thanks.

I personally would skip the 5x7's. Oval speakers tend to distort. Are you willing to add pods to the doors? If so, then get any of the high-end 6 1/2" components that your ears like. Maybe 16psibrick could fab up some pods for your Aviator? He's also an authorized DLS dealer and DLS components are pretty sweet sounding drivers.

This is one instance where I condone the use of rear speakers, as you will most likely at some point have rear seat passengers, you want them to be able to enjoy the music as well.

Just ordered some Boston SL80. They are a component speaker on a plate with the crossover built in to the plate. 5.25" round speaker and a tweeter mounted together, no need for custom fab. Should sound decent enough until I get ready to amp them and get my sub in.

There you go! I actually didn't realize plate speakers made a comeback. They went away in the late 90's, but I guess Boston is bringing them back. They should sound pretty nice. Good luck with the Aviator, and I'd be interested in seeing pics of your install.

I have no idea how to go about installing in this vehicle and there is next to no aftermarket support online. I just found that I have a 8" subwoofer in the 3rd row seat... at least I think that's what it is. Going to be really difficult and I'm going to have to take my time. I really hope the head unit has RCA outputs. Ugh, I really don't even know where to start with this project.

I highly doubt the factory headunit has rca outs. But you can easily add a lie out converter or that thing JL makes......i forget the name off hand.

If you were in NJ I would have been happy to help you out.

EDIT: JL Audio Cleansweep - http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...hp?prod_id=387

Well I believe you connect the speaker level outputs from the OEM headunit in to the Cleansweep and it basically allows you to adjust the level of the signal to send the cleanest possible preamp signal out to your amplifers. I've never used one, but have heard it works wonders.

Or you could just pick up a $30 line out converter and call it a day.

I use a cleansweep, your description is correct.
