Default Install of a DD head unit in an 07 AT Z ?

I'm planning on buying the IVA-W205 from Alpine (double din) and I know many people here have that installed in their Zs. I want to replace the stock head unit (no bose, no nav) in my 07 Auto Enthusiast. I have seen many guides how to take apart the dash and what you will need to do it - but it's always done on a manual tranny. My question is: is there any difference in taking the dash apart to install the new head unit in the auto tranny versus the manual? It seems that the dash comes apart where the shifter is at. Also, what is required additionally to install the head unit. I used to sell stereos a few years back and we always sold them a wiring harness and an install kit. I'm guessing since its double din I wont need the install kit as it should most generally fit right in place of the old stock. Do I still need a wiring harness, and will I also need an adapter to fit my radio controlls from the steering wheel to the new head unit?

Thanks for any help. I'm new here (just bought my Z about 4 months ago) and it seems that you are all incredibly friendly and helpful.

Crutchfield sells all the components you'll need if you wanna do it yourself.

I don't know if this is the case with all DD Units, but when I got mine installed, I lost the ability to use the controls in my steering wheel...

Since I can't see any of the replies so far actually *answering* any of your questions AND I just installed a double din AVIC-D# in my '07 350Z w/5AT yesterday, I'll take a shot at a few of your questions. lol

The only difference with the AT is the piece around the shifter. On the autos like ours, the little silver "ring" that surrounds the shifter, pops up first. Just lift it with your fingers, it'll come up. (Sorry, no pics) After you've taken it up/off, get your fingers into the gap that's there now at the REAR, and lift the console piece till you can get your fingers under it at the REAR. It's all "snap together" connectors. Just lift firm and steady at the rear, it'll "pop". It hooks UNDER the dash console piece at the front/top, so lift from the rear and work your way forward. Once that piece is up, there will be a white electrical plug you'll have to disconnect that's at the front/passenger side (hazard flashers). Take it loose. There's also a ribbon cable, white too, to the AC/Vent controls. Disconnect it and the console piece will come off. Follow the instructions for the rest of the dash from there.

I'm guessing since its double din I wont need the install kit as it should most generally fit right in place of the old stock.
You'd guess wrong. lol The opening is actually slightly LARGER than double-din, AND it's not "flat" where the face of the radio sits. There's a Metra kit everyone uses, I can't recall the number but it's in many threads here. It's by far acknowledged as the best fitting dash kit.

Do I still need a wiring harness,
Well you don't HAVE to have a wiring harness, I suppose, if you don't mind cutting the Nissan wires all up. I used a harness that was made to tie my AVIC-D3 to the Nissan harness without cutting my factory wires. You should too.

and will I also need an adapter to fit my radio controlls from the steering wheel to the new head unit?
Yes. PAC makes a ton of 'em that will adapt the steering wheel controls to just about any head unit out there. I used the PAC SWI-PS (Steering Wheel Interface-Pioneer/Sony). Use the PAC website and you'll find what you need depending on what brand head unit you go with.

Check back here for specific instructions once you get your equipment.

Good Luck
