Question Alpine H/U help (dimmer)

I just installed an Alpine 7893 and I'm having a problem figuring out the dimmer. I drive with my headlights on mostly all the time, so I want to defeat the dimmer so the deck stays bright. When I put the dimmer on "auto" it dims when you turn the lights on. When I select "manual" it also dims. I would assume that by selecting manual, you could manually turn the dimmer on or off. How do you do this? Basically, I want it to stay bright at all times....even with the headlights on.

Help, please

I think I've noticed the same operation on my apline unit. Only thing I could suggest is disconnecting the Illumination Lead (Orange) from the radio. I believe it takes a +12V to cause it to dim, so disconnecting it would stop it from dimming completely.

I wanted to avoid removing the deck again (tearing the dash apart in my new 350Z) at all costs, but that was apparently the only way to stop it from dimming, by disconnecting the wire.

All is well now....thanks!

That's just it. I use the headlights *all* the time and when it's on auto dim, it's hard too see during the day. You can still dim the deck manually, if you want, even with the wire disconnected....it just doesn't dim when you turn the lights on now and that's what I wanted.

Woops.. I ment to say for you to chage it to manual.... u will have to go back in and chage it back to auto to dimm it.. that is as far as I know.. though you might be able to dim it manualy with out going in to the set up once you set the dimmer on manual

I did change it to manual to begin with and when you do that, it stays dim *all* the time whether the headlights are on or not. There's no button to press once it's in manual mode to turn off the dimmer....you have to go back into the setup and change it to auto. If you disconnect the illumination lead then it stays bright all the time when it's on auto....even with the lights on because you've disconnected the illumination, cutting the connection.
