Subwoofer Ohms - please help!
I'm looking to buy Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 10" sub and drop it into the stock location. There are two versions - ones that come in 2/4ohms and another one that comes in 8 ohms. If I'm going to drive them with the Alpine MRV-F450 5/4/3 amp, does it matter which one I get? Thanks.
Stats for the MRV-F450
50 watts RMS x 4 + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
60 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
120 watts RMS x 2 + 200 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode
Stats for the MRV-F450
50 watts RMS x 4 + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
60 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
120 watts RMS x 2 + 200 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode
it depends...
the alpine 450 is a 4 ohm on the sub channel. it is not 2 ohm stable on the sub channel.
from what I see on crutchfield.com it's a single voice coil, so I'd say stick with the 4 ohm model to match the amp.
if you plan on doing two subs, you should go with the 8 ohm model. 8 ohm + 8 ohm wired in parallel will give you 4 ohms which would match your amp.
4 ohm + 4 ohm wired in parallel will give you 2 ohms which the amp isn't rated for.
