Default Protecting Stereo From Water Damage

Hi everyone, my other car is a 1971 VW beetle that I restored, and built the engine for blah blah. Anyways, I've been going through about one stereo per year it seems like from water damage. But here's the thing. I've actually locked myself in the trunk of my car with a flashlight while my dad floods the hood area where the stereo is with high pressure water, with no avail. NO leak anywhere that I could see.

So what I've resorted, and why I'm here to humbly ask for your help, is to find out if there is some sort of breathable water absorbing foam/plastic or some other way that I can cover the vulnerable parts of the radio with to keep the water from getting in to the mother board. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

how about gortex, the stuff they make jackets out of. it's water proof yet is breathable. no idea where you get it from though.

A better idea would be to get some corrosion block. you can get it from fishing or boating supply stores. it's a lubricant that displaces water and prevents corrosion. it's safe for electronics so you could just spray the circuit boards with it and you're good to go. I've seen the demo they had where they had a portable TV completely submerged in the stuff and it was working. it's good stuff but a bit pricy. I use it in place of WD-40 for everything.

I had a alarm remote in my pocket when I went to the beach once and it took a drink in the salt water. when I tried to unlock my car and took my keys out, the fricken remote was foaming from the batteries. I took the remote apart when I got home and let it soak overnight in the corrosion block and poped in new batteries the next morning at it worked. I'm sold on this product. Give it a try it.

I've never seen anything like you describe. You locked yourself in the trunk to test water leaks?? There is now way you could fit into the forward trunk of a VW Beetle doing the exercise you describe.

This isn't funny at all. You need another project to keep busy.

Obviously this is a "joke" thread.

It's not a joke. I have a super beetle which has a larger trunk area. I easily fit in there with two flashlights to check. Why would I make it up?

And thanks for the info on that corrosion block stuff. Where could I purchase it from?

Just ordered some no corrosion, thanks a bunch. What do you think about Marine radios? I was looking at the Clarion M475. Not much more than a standard head unit, but it comes with some water resistant stuff. Thanks for your help.
