Default Remote radar detectors, laser and more.

I have several questions

I've been up in arms re: the 8500 vs V1 issue. I want to get a new detector (esp for our crosscountry drive to SD coming up).

1) I'll avoid the whole V1 debate and go further...how come nobody seems to be using these remote systems. Y'know the BEL remote, escort SR7, SRX etc.
What are your thoughts? Anybody use one?

2) LAser jammers. The escort Zr3 and bel LR sound kinda keen. However, do we NEED these? I dont have a front license plate. I noticed with my Gen5 prelude that it was *INVISIBLE* to laser!!! I got lasered several times in chi-town, saw the cop but never got pulled over! When my wife and I drove from NYC to Chi-town 2X we drove through OHIO (laser capital) at night and got lasered up to 8 consecutive times (doing 140mph). We simply slowed when the detector went off and watched and heard the frustration from the invisible trooper as the detector went oof 7 more times. We passed the guy a mile down th road....then sped up! This happened going BOTH ways through that "lovely state".

I always theorized that the reason it was so was that the lude had a very slanted nose and I also had no front plate on her.

so

2) Does the Z present a difficult target to laser? Has anybody checked?

Thanks for your input and suggestions.

I have the BEL 975LR (remote detector) in my car. Works fine and has saved me a couple of times. Theoretically a "dash mounted" detector is supposed to work better than a remote due to the location of the radar pickup (remote will always be lower as it's mounted in the "nose" of the car).

As to why there are not too many posts, it may be due to the cost. Most remote detectors are more than a V1 or 8500 (especially the Escorts) and on top of that the installation can be pretty expensive. Since everyone seems happy with their V1 or 8500 they probably don't see the need to spend more money for something that may not work as well.

As far as a tip, a great one that I discovered was that you can mount the front laser pickup on the front of your rearview mirror and it is almost invisible, as the module is the same color as the mirror.
