A couple years ago I overpaid a local stereo shop for a new stereo in my previous car. I removed all the components before trading the car in, and now I'm debating if I should reuse any of them in my Z.

Front speakers: MB Quart DSD216
Rear speakers : MB Quart DKD116
Amp: Alpine MRP-F320 (5 channel)
Head unit: JVC KD-SH99 (plays MP3 disks, has front line-in, which is nice for my pda/ipod)

I'd like some opinions: Are any of these components worth keeping? My Z will be having a subwoofer installed when I do get a system put in, if that makes any difference. Will the sub handle 4 speakers + sub? I'm not looking to blow out my windows, but I DO listen to a wide range of music and need enough power to keep the timpani and 'hammer of fate' fueled through Mahler's 6th!

From what I've been reading, it sounds like these are some of the cheapest MB Quarts (Diskus series). I WAS happy with them, although they seem to bottom out pretty easily (no sub in the last system, maybe my cutoff was set too high). I never see anyone even mention JVC headunits.

I've got maybe $1k ($1500 if I'm coerced!) to spend on a system, including subwoofer... any suggestions on what to keep, what to dump, and what to buy?

Keep the amp and HU in your current system, these will do fine. Those MBs are horrible at best (IMO) and I'd look to spend $400-800 on new front speakers. If you want the rear fill then throw some of those MBs back there. For a sub, you'll have plenty left to get just about anything. A single 10" sub in the right box will be more then enough for a Z (I run a single 10 and it's way more then enough). I could name subs for days to look so if you got something in mind post it up.
