sure it's possible, but how much quality and reliability are you willing to give up?

What are you looking to achieve with your system? SQ, SPL, what type of music do you listen to, what features do you want the headunit to have?

Just to illustrate that it is possible, here is a setup of 'not garbage' equipment that will fall near your budget:

Headunit:
JVC KD-G230
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...C+KD-G230.html

Amp (ch 1&2 powering front, ch 3&4 bridged powering subs):
MA Audio M500XE
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...o+M500XE.html#

Components *:
Infinity Reference 6020CS
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ce+6020CS.html

Subs (two dual 4ohm subs wired to 4ohm load):
MA Audio MA101XQ
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...o+MA101XQ.html

Zenclosures:
2 10" under strut box

Grand Total of $570 (wiring and sound damping extra)

OPTIONAL:
A better sub choice for a phenomenal price, but will increase your budget by $90.......
Subs (two 8ohm subs wired parallel to 4ohms):
Vifa MA26WR02-08
http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=1480

Disclaimer -
* As with any component choices, please demo as many sets as possible to find what sounds best to YOU. The set chosen is for budget/illustration purposes only.

You know what? I just reread your original post, and you only want subs, amp, and headunit.......sorry I quoted for a whole system.

The answer to your question (now that I know what your question is) is yes, it is very possible.

i would do pioneer deh3900 deck $ 150 to $175
i would use 2 each 10" or 12" RD Audio Classics $ 250
i would use an RD Audio 800.1 or 1000.1 to power them $ 250 -$300
