I recently got to buy some goodies for myself. I originally bought the Pioneer AVIC d3. Since i bought it new, i wanted to rebuy everything in my car new so i won't have any problems this year with it. I sold all of my stuff locally and bought the same stuff again. I really like this set up. I have yet to hear a better set up using 1 10" sub in the Z.

JL 500/1

JL 300/4
I took out my CDT components. I was thinking of going with a different set. Maybe some of you have some ideas. It will be ran off of my JL 300/4.

nice, i have the same sub and amp. you should get mids and amplify them. the w7 will over power.
did you set your w7 to the recommended amp settings, or did you use your own settings?

I used the recommended amp settings as a base, the worked from there. I got the perfect sound out of them. What i love about this set up is that it's loud inside and not outside at all. No one can even hear me coming. It's great.

I'm running the JL XR components with the 300/4 and it is awesome. However, if i was in the market now, i would get the new JL component series, C5. They are in between the XR and ZR, which is excellent for the money. you will not be disapointed either way.

Also, i got Zeclosures door pods (the ones without the tweeters). i recomomend this for several reasons. first, if you install the speakers in the factory spot with spacers, the speaker somes very close to the door panel. in my case, the speaker excursion would hit the inner door panel. also, the factory speaker grills muffle the sound somewhat since the tiny holes are not all drilled through all the way. and another reason is the mid bass sound from the speaker pods are much better than just the factory location.

What would be your budget for comps? I know you like smooth detailed highs, so maybe a couple of us could steer you towards a few different sets to demo if you can find them.
You have 150 rms watts per channel to feed them via the 300/4? are you wanting to go active with the fronts? that would be a nice option with that 4 channel amp. Or are you planning on powering rears as well?

The 300/4 is 150rms at 2 channels bridged or 75rms by 4 channels.
I have been using the rear speakers as a fill. A lot of people have told me to just run front components and cut off the rear speakers. Not sure if this should be the way to go.

my personal opinion for you is that $400 or less can get you some nice comps and if set up right you should not miss your rear fill.....especially with 150rms x 2!
If you want I can perhaps recommend a couple sets for you to consider. Of course I would never expect anyone to purchase comps without hearing them first.

I went down to Tweeters last week but all they had were the regular MB quarts, JL, just some other brands that were just regular stuff. The JL XR series sounded pretty good. This weekend, there is a home audio place that just opened their car audio portion of the store and they carry Morel, DLS, Zapco, Focal and Boston. I was going to look into their Boston line. Friends have told me to go with Focal or Morel. I haven't heard the Zapco yet so i will check that out as well.

My personal pick would be:
Peerless Definition 6
$166 but sold out at Madisound (should be around this price)

80 watts rms, but imagine 2 of these sets for under your $400 budget!

nice sub and amp, i am thinking of getting a 10w7...
i was wondering, is it even possible to fit that in the space behind our seats? and if not what type of sub can fit back there? i really want to save trunk space.

I have the same exact setup. 10W7, 500/1, and a 300/4. (In black though) And I LOVE the way it sounds. It's not SPL competition levels, but the sound quality is amazing. Very dependable and great sound for all types of music. I listen to almost anything and my setup never lets up.
I used to work at Sound Advice and their high end battle was between Boston Acoustics Pro60's, MB Quart Q's, and Focal KF/KP series (Utopia's for special order). I ended up with the flatter overall response, and better mid range Focal 165KF. Retail, they run for $650, but I'm certain that they can be found elsewhere for your price range. They are fantastic. Great range and response. Its an exotic speaker for a decent price. You can be different and sound extreemly good. For rear fill I went with their lesser expensive 165CA1 series. These retail for $300+/-. For setup pictures see my post. I don't have pictures of the install process but I will admit, the only downside to the 165KF's is that it is incredibly difficult to install in the factory location. They are substantially deep and avoiding the window was challenging. I ended up making it fit but it was by far the most difficult front speaker install I had ever done. You can PM me for details.
