Default About to buy amp and components.....is this a good deal?? thanks!!

Ok well I saved up a bit and decided to get the NAZAR door pods, a 2 channel amp and some nice front components to put in the Z

I found so far Diamond Audi HEX 600S silk tweeter
150rms rating bla bla etc etc ..........$240

Alpine PDX amp 150rms X 2 ............$245

both are brand new. I know there are lots of good revies of this speaker and the amps look nice and seem to be a good deal.

Should I go for an Audison Amp....or a memphis? I liked my memphis in the past.

should I get a better/equivilant component? Why?

Thanks for your help. I like making sound purchases when I decided to spend 500-700

audison for SQ for sure, but the Memphis amps are great all around amps and very highly rated.

Why did you go with just the HEX tweeters and not the entire component set?

He's saying he got the HEX comp set with the silk tweets (as opposed to the aluminum tweets).

Components are a very personal choice. You should most definitely get what sounds best to YOU. I can tell you what I think sounds good and you may think it sounds like POO. That said, the Diamond HEX set is a very nice set. I like the Diamond silk tweets. When tuned properly, they are extremely detailed and smooth.

As for amps, Audison is a very nice and dynamic amp for your components. My next choice would be the Alpine PDX, then the Memphis. Nothing wrong with the Memphis, just for component duties this is the order in which my personal preferences are out of the 3 amps you mentioned. Which Audison are you looking at?

I have not decided on the Audison.
The PDX being a class D has not the best reviews on components, its damping factor of 80 in low freq doesnt seem to be the best. I am not worried about looks or size. Its all about SQ.

I was happy with my memphis but we will see.

my friends shop is pushing the Hertz MLK speakers....for about $850 and I hear they are one of the best speakers ever made!! but the hell if I want to pay 850 for a component pair....especialy in a noisey Z where I am not going to be able to hear all of the music once driving.

I guess the prime Audison amp would be the LRX2.250 for 350 bucks
120x2

The PDX are full range class D, it's a technology developed by Bang & Olufson (sp?). I have heard the Eclipse XA (I own them ) as well as the Alpine PDX series recently and have nothing bad to say about them. Damping factor ratings on amps can be taken with a grain of salt.

Best speakers ever made? I very highly doubt that. I think a 3-way set of Focal Utopia or 2-way Morel Supremo would take them down a few pegs in SQ. It's also all in the install. $4k components NOT installed/tuned correctly can sound worse that a set of Sony components installed/tuned correctly.

The VRx 2.250? It's a very nice amp and will do any set of comps you get a lot of justice.

EDIT, Nevermind......I forgot the LR series had a 2.250 as well.

true, I didnt mean literally best ever, but mind blowing.

I have been reading up on Caraudio.com and it seems the new Hex's are just blah. Kind of turning me off to them. Alot of people like the Hertz and the Rainbows. I just can't/wont afford the MLK Hertz.

I am willing to pay 300-350ish for my fronts....and I like strong mid bass and smooth highs.

any reccomends?

I hear ya. Hertz and Rainbow are both great companies. They are very "BUZZ" right now. People like to be different and have the best, that's why they are both very popular brands in car audio. They are both excellent quality and are hard to obtain here in the US, and carry high price tags. All of these factors add up to the "I want it because I want to be different" mentality.

It seems by your posts that you want top-notch SQ, why not piece together your own fully active setup? Get some ScanSpeak mids and tweets and a 3-way active crossover and go nuts.

Like I said above though, picking components is very personal and you should demo everything you can to find out what sound YOU like. If it sounds good to you, who cares what brand they are?

I 100% agree with you on sampling. Its just here in richmond the local stores are not the best.

Luckily the most honest and high quality store I am good friends with the owner come 7 years now. But I still cant get teh MLK's cheaper than 800 bucks.

I do want High end SQ....but within reason. This factor based on the car....a 350Z no matter how much sound insulation I do will be a sports car with road noise and vibrations so I dont want to buy a 1k set of speakers I cant hear.

I wont touch Best buy stuff....been there with JL audio/Diamond/Eclipse and like it...but wanting to go more rare/less mass produce....more quality.

As described I look for warm and strong mids and smooth non harsh highs.

I am gonna go listen to the lower end hertz today and listen to the JL CS model.

I went and listened to a few today.

On 3 amps and multiple settings the JL CS did not sound good. I tried a ton of setting and the sound hollow and the silk tweeters where harsh.

I listened to the boston pros and they are amazing. I love the strong mid bass solid tweeter....all in all just great sounding.

I also listened to the MB Quart 500 dollar comonents...I think they are pro as well. Anyways the midbass was strong but not a warm as the bostons and the highs where harsh.

The MB's may be more accurate but the Bostons sounded "room filling"

Boston Pro's are a great components set. I had them in my Xterra. They were honestly one of the better component sets I've ever had.

yeah i couldnt believe the smoothness of the tweeters event though they are metal. the surround must be the reason. and the midbass is what sold me, I listened to 3 CD's and 10 tracks and each one I just kept smiling.

the local guy said he would sell them to me for 380 if I buy this week. I think thats a good deal, and cant find them cheaper online.

$380 is a great deal for Boston Pro's. If you like em, get em!

I can personally recommend the Bostons and the Rainbows. They are both great sets. The DLS have great reviews here, Bing (16psibrick) is a DLS dealer and a sponsor of this forum. I haven't heard any Hertz sets, but I know they are affiliated with Audison so i imagine they can't be all that bad.....but are they worth the premium dollar?

well I will not rush my self and try to listen to a few setups the local shops have for me.

Lastly......is it worth the 170 bucks for teh NAZAR door pods, or should I use a MDF spacer and install in the door?

Pods or kicks are definitely the preferred way to go. The stock door panels just block too much sound to be efficient. I have the Zenclosures pods, which house the mid/woofer and the tweeter. I think I paid $140 for mine wrapped in vinyl. You could also as Bing to make some kick panels for you if you don't mind losing your dead pedal.
