Default Phoenix Gold Ti6 Elite

I know they dont make these speakers anymore, but Woofersetc is selling the PG Ti6 Elite woofers for cheap and I am thinking about buying them since they are supposedly Morel drivers.
Does anyone have experience with these woofers in an active set-up? I am looking for something to replace my MB Quart Premiums. How do the Ti6's compare to higher end drivers like zapco, morel, dls, and dynaudio? All opinions on these drivers are welcome. Appreciate the help.

the ti6 is an older generation morel driver. iirc 5 years or os ago?

i have installed a few sets, and well, its a good speaker, but not in the same league as the new hgih end drivrs you listed. again, the key is the installation technique, versus the driver it self...though kinda funny you want ask about going active, as the TI is bacailly the morel drivers back then with a better than morel xover module hehe

but either way, one ting to remember is that since PG's really gone down hill, if you blow the spealker, you are very unlikely to find anyhwere to repair or replace it even if oyu offer to pay...

i am not sure how cheap you can get it for, but honestly, in todays world, i wouldnt pay more htn 300-350 bucks for it...despite it being a very expensive driver back in the day...its just too old and too much without warranty for me to wanna risk it...

For $499, I would say to go for it. You'd be hard pressed to beat the performance for the money. Just as Bing said, if you blow a tweet or mid, don't expect any real support from PG.

Keep this site handy in case you do, at least you can replace the driver and not have to buy a whole new set.

im my experience, the Ti6 is great on mid range but lacking on midbass. Still a wonderful driver. Speaker technology really hasn't changed much in the last 5-10 years.

I just reread your first post, they are selling the woofers? by themselves? All I saw was the component set (for $499).

EDIT: There they are

$120/pair? I say go for it.

Yeah, they are selling the woofers only for 120. I have read that the crossover was the thing that made the speakers sound good, and I wouldnt doubt it since the xover is HUGE. To me, this is an opportunity to get some great drivers for a good price. I remember I could have bought the revelator 5 1/4" drivers for 100 bucks each, but I missed the boat on that. I dont want to make the same mistake on this deal. So for all of those who heard and liked the TI6 Elites, please chime in and give me an opinion on the quality of these drivers and if this is really a "deal". Or would I be better off just buying a pair of those Seas drivers from Madisound that everyone is raving about for like $70 each. Thanks for the opinions.

Well I 'think' PG used the Morel MW166 driver for the Ti6 woofer. If I am correct, John "Zaph" Krutke had this to say in his woofer shootout:

"Comments: The response is smooth enough to work with, but this driver is plagued by highish tall order distortion through the midrange. It has a huge voice coil (3") but a tiny spider supporting it. I don't recommend this driver as it's non-linear distortion of all types is pretty obvious with most music."
