Default A little help with box design please

I am going to build a ported box for two 10W6s for the hatch of my Z. I have approximately 9-12 inches in height, 22 inches in width, 26 inches in depth to play with. Would like to have one slotted port. The subs take .75 each. I'm using the spare tire well as the bottom of the box.

I'm mathematically challenged, can someone calculate this for me?

www.reaudio.com has a box calculator you can use to calc the volume, port length, tuning frequency, etc. Just click on the link on the bottom left of the page. I used it to help build my ported box. I have yet to test out the box.

My personal opinion is that if real SQ is what you want, you won't go ported. Sealed is the way to go for a true SQ sub stage.

BUT
according to JL Audio's website:
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...hp?series_id=6
Tune to 37.89Hz

Good stuff, thank you. I know sealed would probably be best but I love the way a good ported box sounds.

Here's what I came up with:

Width 21"
Height 9.5"
Depth 25"

Port Width 3.5"
Port Length 20.75"

Box Volume 1.679 ft

Frequency 37.98

Does this appear right?

a 3.5" port width is too wide. The wider the port width, the higher the tuning frequency will be (or the longer your port will need to be).

perrogrande007,
Is this a slot port or tube port? If slot port, what is the other dimension to this? If it is a tube port, then dtak59 is correct, although 20+" is pretty long.

Also, the JL site says for a ported enclosure, the recommended volume is 0.75 cu ft, you are making your enclosure over double that?

Slot port. I'm using two 10W6s, so I'm doubling the enclosure space. I used that program and came up with those dimensions? Suggestions?

Ahhh, that's right, you are using 2. Sorry for my oversight.

Should I reduce the size of my port? The program I used had the box tuned to the right specs, but I want to make sure before I start cutting up wood :-)
